What am i doing wrong
-
17 July 2008 23:03
First i will start and say hello to you all, what a great site this is and have used it to fill my brains with info. I am currently going to the gym every other day, and doing weights for all parts of my body. This is probably wrong but i feel good when i come away from the gym. Cardio wise im running twice a week and some rowing and cycling at the gym. My diet before..well crap,, including lots of junk but set meals 3 cooked a day which were pretty healthy ( I think) I have now cut all the junk out, having a bowl of shreddies in the morning, beans on toast 10am ish and a cooked meal for lunch (maybe jacket potato and beans, spag bol, pork chops, chicken, pasta) and then for tea another cooked meal similar to lunch. 2 bits of friut spread out the day and a protien drink only after i have worked out. This is the problem, my muscles seem to be improving but my belly and man boobs are also, which i never used to have. what am i doing wrong, im eating better and doing more cardio than before and putting on more fat??

Sounds like you're eating too many carbs and sugars. I'd ditch the shreddies first thing and eat some eggs or turkey bacon with whole meal bread. Oats, bananas and peanut butter with some whey powder is a good way to get some decent calories first thing. Beans on toast has a reasonable amount of protein but not much decent carbs, depending on what bread your using. I'd pass on that and have a protein shake with powdered oats and olive oil, maybe some pre-cooked veggies and nuts. Your lunch and dinner looks o.k but make sure you don't get tempted to over-eat or eat the wrong kind of foods. I don't know your stats but you should be getting around 25-30g of lean protein 40-50g of Complex Carbs 15-20g of Good fats Thats for every meal, five times a day. Your Post workout shake counts as a meal. That should be the one meal that contains simple carbs. My PWO shake consists of 40g Whey Protein 45g Dextrose 45g Maltodextrin Make sure you drink about four litres of water, slowly throughout the day. Hope this helps.

Exactly what curly said. As for the training side of things, it seems like your over doing it because of your poor diet. Aim for a decent Full body routine 3 times a week - working on compound movements this should be right for a beginner.
