4 - 5 sets of 8 - 10 reps First 2 sets warm ups Then all the rest to failure

Max of 12 sets for large body parts
Max of 8 sets for small body parts

You wont go far wrong with these

I do 3 sets with upto 8 reps on each excercise. The first set you should be able to complete with proper form the second set at least 3/4 with proper form and third set untill failure. I was told that this is the bet for muscle size hypertrophy.

My preference would be....

3-5 sets of 6-10 reps
Hitting each bodypart once a week
Lifting as heavy as you can
Using 2 or maybe 3 exercises per bodypart
PB's (88kg-natural)
Squat - 135kg
Bench - 125kg x 2
Deadlift - 230kg

I have found that one warmup set plus four working sets of 12, 10, 8, 8 reps works well for me, increasing the weight each set.

Try 3x6-8, and not training to failure, but progressing every week. Nothings set in stone, so you can try what you want, but its a good place to start.

i would refrain from trainin to failure on each set mate!!
warm up properly and also maybe perform some ehavier warm up sets to aclimatise to a heavy weight...
then hit 2 working sets say with 5-8 reps... trainin all sets to failure imo isnt the best for hypertrophy at all! u need to leave somehtin in the tank mate!!!and as for pyramiding... well the first few sets of pyramiding are just warm ups.. unless u r performing the max amnount fo reps for that weight and increasing weight next set and performing max reps for that weight- in which case this is just training to failure every set again and as said, i really feel this is not the best way to go!!

Anything from 3 sets or 8-12 reps to 8-10 sets of 3 heavy reps and everything inbetween. Providing you're eating sufficient calories to create an anabolic environment you'll gain size but with a degree of bodyfat too.

If you're looking to get bigger and tone at the same tone (by tone I presume you're after some definition) then you're need to lower bodyfat at the same time as gaining muscle - the Holy Grail as it's known.

A reduction in calories will result in a reduction in bodyfat levels but possibly at a cost in a reduction in lean tissue too.

Adding muscle mass needs a calorie surplus, cutting body fat needs a calorie deficit. I believe it was 'diet guru' Tom Venuto who said this pursuit is akin to 'chasing two rabbits and catching neither'. [quote from old MT member Toxic Toffee]

Choose one aim and stick with that for at least 10 weeks. Reassess at the end of the period and see if you're any closer to your chosen goal.
