First ever cardio session this morning.....
-
23 July 2008 08:44
Decided it's time to get rid of my belly so started fasted cardio this morning. Never done cardio before so couldn't manage much. This is what I did: 5 minutes warm up on exercise bike, straight into 40 secs moderate, then 20 secs sprint, 40 secs moderate and so on, for 5 minutes, then cool down for 5 minutes. Is this likely to do anything? I aim to keep the 5 minutes warm up & cool down and increase the middle bit slowly - 6 minutes tomorrow, 7 then next, until I get to a decent cardio workout. Is there anything I'm missing or doing wrong? I take an ECA tab before and drink water while cycling. How long after I've finished can I have my protein shake?

I reckon you should be fuelling that cardio mate as it is HIIT and without food before hand you will probably go catabolic. Unfuelled should only really be done when going at a steady easy pace.

So which would be better for shifting fat: What I'm doing now but fueled or unfueled steady pace for 30-45 minutes?

There are people who will argue for both sides but it is a matter of trying them both out for yourself for a few weeks and seeing which one gives the best results. I have been doing 40mins steady since the start of my cut and have seen good fat loss; I am now changing this to HIIT as I want to see how this works for me and also I want to gain fitness from it which isn't really coming from the SSCV. At the end of the day they both burn cals so if you burn more cals than you eat, you will lose weight

Think I'll try steady unfueled for 30-40 minutes for a month, then swap to HIIT. Or would it be beneficial to do unfueled steady in the morning and HIIT at night after eating?

ORIGINAL: JACK_KNIFE So which would be better for shifting fat: What I'm doing now but fueled or unfueled steady pace for 30-45 minutes? Personally unfueled steady cardio worked best to shift fat for me mate. ...........and I needed to shift a lot!
