Best cheese - low fat/high protein? - 23 July 2008 10:13
I'm on a keto diet at the minute, and I'm getting a bit sick of tuna everyday.

So I'm thinking, for a change, I might get some packs of chicken/turkey/ham sandwich type meat and add a bit of cheese to this to make a meal.

What's the best cheese for getting some protein in me, without too much fat?

And don't say cottage cheese. That is an option, but I fancy something different as I already have loads of this.

Rosemary Conley hard cheese

Supermarket own brand half fat cheese, around 32g pro and 13g of fat per 100g

If you're on a keto, why are you concerned with fat level in cheese...?

I'd be more concerned about adding a highly processed meat as a regular component to my diet than a full fat cheese.

I'm not worried too much about fat, but even the lowfat versions have plenty in.

Whats wrong with turkey/chicken slices. I've been looking at the nutritional info and they seem ok?

Low fat Fresh Mozzarella. 20% pro, 5% carbs, 0.5% fat.

Nicer cooked than raw.

Are you talking the sliced breast stuff - 100% meat, nothing else? If so, that can be fine. It's when you're having the reconstituted, strangely cooked, overly preserved crap that you want to avoid having it regularly.

As an aside, it's a very expensive way to buy chicken/turkey breast - cheaper to buy turkey crowns and cook and prepare yourself

I'm talking the sandwich type meat, but I'd go for the best quality I can get. The ones I looked at (using Tesco online) were all 20% protein.

I was just thinking of switch to meat and cheese maybe for 2 days out of the 5 I'm at work.

I don't know if you would be interested but you can get fat free cream cheese (0.1g of fat/14.9g, as free as you will get I guess), 2.3g of protein per 14.9g. I know you said cheese, it is kind of.

I was going to say the same thing.

Personally I wouldn't touch "reduced fat" cheese ever.

No offence Brittas, but I feel you are worrying a little too much about your cut.

None taken mate.

I've only got a few weeks left and I'm getting a bit bored thats all. So yes, I suppose I am worrying a bit...... but mainly about slipping up and un-doing the hard work.
