Alternative to Skull Crushers - 23 July 2008 19:44
Hi, I think the bar in my gym is too long and/or too heavy for these after failing miserably earlier today. Anyone suggest a good alternative please ?

Thanks

are you using the standard barbell?

Have you tried doing then with the ez bar?
Failing that I like close grip bench press for adding mass to my tris

try a close grip bench press.
You are only as strong as your weakest link

Strengthen the weakest link and you strengthen the entire chain.

According to the Cashman thread:

SATURDAY - Chest/Tri
5 Min warm-up
Dumbell Flat Bench - 4 sets 6-8 reps
Weighted Dips For Chest - 4 sets 6-8 reps (last set to failure)
Incline Dumbell Fly- 4 sets 6-8 reps (last set to failure) (Lay so head is at the top of the bench)
Skull Crushers - 3 sets 6-8 reps (or close grip bench press)
overhead cable presses 3 sets 6-8 reps (last set to fail) (or close grip bench presses)

As we don't have good equipment, I'm a bit limited, so I've been doing close grip bench instead of the cable presses, should I leave it out of the routine ?

i much prefer close grip benching

i get a bit of wrist pain with them but i get a lot of elbow pain with skulls

give them a go mate, ignore the standard recommendations for hand width and go as close as you can comfortably, start off light though
