Hi all, When taking up weights is it best to start off with any particular training regime, i.e.; lower weight, higher reps at first to improve muscle tone, definition etc... What is your theory on this, if any???

Moderately high reps lower weights - you're learning the movement so you need some repetition but not to the point where yopu;re doing a lot of fatigued ones. Basically 10-14 rep range, 2-3 sets depending upon age.

ORIGINAL: Stethomas Hi all, When taking up weights is it best to start off with any particular training regime, i.e.; lower weight, higher reps at first to improve muscle tone, definition etc... What is your theory on this, if any??? TBH i always say its best to have core building movements in any beginners routine. Squats dead lifts ect. Dnt swing the weights, lift them with good form not haste As for reps above is a good starting point. Add some patience to that and you'll be fine. Rome wasnt built in a day
