I have been instructing Body Attack for the shortest amount of time, because the club only introduced it last July. I get a real buzz from it. The Music is good and the energy in the room is amazing. I'm fairly fit, but I do find Attack a challenge, it certainly gets the heart rate up!

People who attend do pick up injuries if they use bad technique, mainly shin splints and calf pulls. As long as you land the heels in all those jacks and if you are really knackered take it low impact for 5 mins to get your breath back, so you don't carry on whilst compromising technique, hopefully you will remain injury free.

Potentially participants could pick up knee injuries on the plyrometric lunges too if they use poor technique. This ussually happens when people get tired. As long as you stay in control, listen to your body and use the options, I think it's a gret cardiovascular program.

I tend to avoid the plrometric lunges and go for the stepping lunge, my poor leggies can't cope !

I remember the first class I did, I had only done Body Pump beforehand, I came out buzzing !! .. I felt like I was out clubbing hehe

It's the hardest class that I attend and always wipes me out afterwards but it's awesome. The agility track is my fave, the running track at the moment bloody kills me though !

Hi tyrob

I still do my volunteer dog walking for Dogs Trust. I'm a busy lady, as you know. The Dog Walkers appreciation day was fab, really learnt alot about the work that Dogs Trust do, things I was not aware of.

Have you got a another dog? I know you sadly lost your dear Ty.

It's the hardest thing I do too, I reckon. Weight Training is hard in a different sort of way. I instruct loads of Advanced Spin (Indoor cycle) for very fit cyclists and tri-atheletes which is tough, but I still think attack is tougher. My heart rate aways sores in the running track!

Hey Angel, just skimmed through some of the pages from your journal...

First thoughts, you work too much! With teaching at 5 gyms and still trying to do weights you might run the risk to overtrain and over exert yourself, also your diet must be really well thought after as you are probably exercizing every waking hour!

Anyway good luck on the training and all the best. I'll keep an eye on your journal.

Hi

Thanks for your comments. I agree, I do run that risk, which I am aware of. I take quite a few holidays, where I do virtually nothing energetic to try to counteract the negative aspects.

ello AD, long time !

Just a quick question as i always read your journal.....do you rate spin biking highly? If so why?

Currently i am leaning out, so my resistance workouts are based around ratio movements (i.e. 2 secs postive, 3 secs negative) and follow up with 30mins light cardio unless its legs days. On off days i am doing 45mins ....my exercise selections are varied but tbh, im bored of them.

Was just wondering if spin biking gives a new aspect to cardio i suppose !

Cheers.

Hey Gecko

Nice to see you are still around. Your journal was the first one I ever read on MT!!!!! That must of been in 2003.

Quite a few guys who weight train are taking up Spin, as it is mainly HIIT, so should not effect your muscle growth as much as some cardio. You need to find a well structured class taken by a knowledgeable instructor, as instructors vary so much. Alternatively, you could do it on your own using power moves and pyramid work. Work with as much resistance and speed as you can for 30 secs, rest 30, work at your max for 45 secs, rest 45 secs, 50 work, 50 rest, 1 min work, 1 min rest then come back down.

Hill sprints are good. Start with a progressive hill, adding more and more resistance, then start to include 30 second power sprints keeping the resistance on. This will take the heart rate up high and back down. It's good fun too!

Wow, this journal spans years, I'm impressed to see someone who has kept one up for so long.

Interesting Read Angel, how much progress do you feel you have made over the years?

Hi

Thanks for the question.

I have prgoressed with my weights but it's been slow due to the fact I do too much cardio in my job.

My first ever deadlift was with 25kgs and now I deadlift 72.5kgs so not amazing progress but progress no less.
I've increased muscle and definition over the last 4 years, still room for improvement though, but I suppose there always is.

That may be true that you feel you weights haven't increased that much, however I bet you have kept in shape and kept a high level of fitness, something that I know a lot of us don't manage to do?

Not amazing progress you say? You have added almost 50ks to your deadlfits, together with the tons of cardio you do a day, then I will say that, that is very good progress.

Today I did a Cardio Blast Class, Pilates Class and Aerotone (don't laugh) then I did some leg Weight Training.

Deadlifts

Warm up

40kg x 10
50kg x 8
60kg x 6

70kg x 5
72.5kg x 4
75kg x 1 (its not the heaviness that stops me, its poor grip)

Single leg deadlift with an overhead press

3 x 5 reps x 5kg
(not much weight I know, but it's quite hard. It is done slowly and more of a core exercise I would say)

Barbell Lunges

30kg x 8
35kg x 8
40kg x 8

ONE ARM, ONE LEG PLANKS, HOLD FOR 1 MIN EACH X 3
SIDE PLANK WITH 4KG DB HELD AT SHOULDER LEVEL (HELD FOR 1 MIN EACH SIDE)

LONG ARM BACK EXTENSIONS 2 x 12

Having a bit of a rest now until 615pm when I have to instruct a 1 hour Advanced Spin Class at one gym and then shoot over to the other side of town to teach a 90 min Yoga Class at 8pm.

Yeah still busy in all the gyms. Taking a break soon though, as going on a walking holiday in Northern Portugal in April. Will be nice to have a change of scene!
