Two questions, where do you work, ie Town/City? And where abouts in Portugal?

I work in a City. I am going to Northern Portugal. I start in Soajo. Day 1. Walk a Soajo Circuit to the hamlet of Adrao, then loop bacck through the old deserted village of Bogalheira. Day 2. Soajo to Lindoso. Day 3. Lindoso to Brufe walking across the Ribeira de Carcerelha, then up to the Mountain village of Germil. Day 4. Brufe to Campo Geres, via the old drowned village of Vilarinho. Day 5. Campo Geres to Emaus Day 6. Emaus to Santa Maria do Bouro Day 7. Santa Maria do Bouro. I've only just noticed that you are from Portugal. I've not been before, do you know any of these places?

Geres area is a very beautiful area of Portugal a lot of greeneries and natural vegetation. It has some of the most beautiful sceneries in the world in my opinion. I have family in that area of Portugal and spent a lot of my holidays growing up there, so I am sure that you will definitely enjoy it. I cant say I have done the circuit you are about to do, but know the area relatively well. Braga which is near(ish) by is a very beutiful city as well with an old architecture... I am sure you will enjoy it.

Ashamed to say I did not do my weight training today. Had some bad news so wasn't in the mood, plus I've got a cold but still had to do 2 hours of Spin 8am till 10am and 1 hour of Yoga. Probably do weights tomorrow if I feel better. __________________

Thanks James. Didn't realise you were still around. Last I heard you were either going off to Uni or joining the Police Force! Did you do either in the end?

Enjoy your break Angel... Dont want to be pedantic, but it is "Adeus Amigos" although that is Goodbye Friends, which is a bit final... As you are returning it is better to say: "Até bréve Amigos" I'll be there next week as well, but am based in Lisbon area. Enjoy the scenery and the mountains fresh air!

Only just got back, I spent between 7 and 9 hours a day climbing mountains, fjording rivers and streams and scrambling down into valleys. Last Saturday, we got lost on a mountain. In Northern Portugal you are lucky if you see one person all day when you climb the mountains. We had been walking since 8am and we got to the three quarters of the way point at 4.30pm. We should of got a taxi from the village at that point to our hotel, but foolishly decided to do the last quarter of the walk, which involved climbing some steep mountains and it was very hot by then, as between 4pm and 5pm is the hottest part of the day in Northern Portugal. Also the weather is very changeable there, the previous two evenings we had mega thunderstorms that lasted 3 and 4 hours at a time with sheet and fork lightening and hail stones the size of golf balls. By 6pm we had climbed 2 mountains, sweated buckets and were running out of water, but thought we did not have too far to go. However, we took a wrong turning and did not have a clue which way to go, then the thunder storm started! Many trees were burnt out from previous forest fires and also lightening had caught some trees alight the previous evening. We tried to scramble down the side of the mountain through burnt out trees and burnt out scrub land, but each route we took, ended in a sheer drop. At this stage we were really panicking and covered in soot, we all looked like chimney sweeps. We had about 100mls of water between us. It was pretty scarey. However, to cut a long story short eventually we found our only way off the mountain was to climb back up and then follow a path along by the river. Sucking the juice of oranges kept us going. We were eventually rescued in a land rover by our emergency contact at about 9pm when it was getting dark. I still have to say I had a fantastic, adventurous holiday, like no other. I saw remote parts of Portugal that I know very few people, if any at all, get to see. I feel priviledged to of had the experience and live a simple life with out the trappings of our high tech, fast existence. Anyway, this is a weights forum, so just to say flew back yesterday, after 10 days of no weight training!!!! Keen to get going with it again, I did some weight training today, just tested the water, to break myself back in gently. Will be back in full swing on Monday.

I did a 26 mile charity walk on Sunday followed by an hour of advanced Spin. Seemed easy compared to climbing mountains! I'm back to weight training now and surprisingly the upper body seems stronger after a break! I will try to post work outs as and when I have time and I'm not just enjoying life. It's great to be alive!
