Gav, you may well be wierd a freak even !! .....but arent we all ?! I measure myself tensed and i aim for the same place, alot of peole are a bit unbalanced on the left/right side and i think it will 'even itself out over time.Around the waist i go for the smallest measurement i can find (as opposed to arount the belly button ) I would eat more protein if i could and i will try for more next week - I dont think it will do any harm to have 350 a day, thats a heck of a lot ! let us know how you get on jonny the bore

gav, When I started 11 weeks ago now I had a very cr@p set of vinyl weights and was not lifting much atall and unable to do the bench press as the shed i was building to house the weights wasnt finished. The weights i lift are the total of both sides of the bar - Bench Press :30kg each side = 60kg and so on ..... Since starting that posting I have been able to add 5 kg to my military press,10 to rows and 5 to curls. My rep range is almost always around 12/10/8/6/6 , give or take a couple here or there. jonnyboy

made the squat rack today, cost me nothing !!! skanked the wood from my mum. Weekends are the most difficult to stick to a good eating routine - not that i eat crud, its easier to forget.

Nice 1 man kin el jack of all trades huh! :].. 2 Days ago(ish) i went out (to argoos) and brought a set of weights (York Iron) with a barbell and dumbbells + a bench. Today i packed it all back up ready to take back tommorrow as its a pile o Sh@t. With the money instead im gonna join a gym next week. I got another question for ya m8, When i start should i only do what i am comfortable with or should i instantly be pushing myself to my limits? How do i find what weight is good for me? Im only saying this because today i tried a few experiments with weights for different exersizes and man o man ... its almost sad. Like some exersizes would only comfortably be able to do 7 kg per arm (Incline Flys). I rekkon i'd only get 5 reps on dumbbell bench presses if i stuck to around 20 KG. Take into account at the moment my diet consists of chips, chinese, mcdonalds, chocolate, i hardly eat any greens or things that are good for me. Gav.

Naw, dont push it to the max until you are comfy with the movements etc - ligaments n tendons need to be eased in, warm up etc etc, doesnt matter how much weight we lift - its ourselves we are in competition with so take it one step at a time. reading thru this site tells me 1 thing - diet is very, very important, got to give the muscles all the nutrients thay need to grow. For me the biggest thing is consistency - miss one session then mabie next time....aw, i'll give it a miss, then its a week ,next thig you need a comeback programme !!! ------------------- Todays food: 500ml milk with weight gainer apple 3 wholemeal toast with P/butter tin tuna with pasta whey protein + 500 ml milk piece flapjack (homemade yumski) 200g chicken n rice + salad whey protein + 500 ml milk --------------------

thanks tyrob, even though its made of wood - its as sturdy as anything, should take plenty of weight with no problems. Flapjack (standard - cheap !!) 100g butter 100g brown sugar 2 tablespoons golden syrup - mix all 3 in a pan with light heat throw in 200 - 250g of porridge oats (needs a real good mixing to cover so it will stick together) add raisins if you like them., put in a deep enough tray. put in oven for about 10 mins gas mark 6 ish. leave to cool then put in fridge. The sugar /fat content looks bad on paper but the amount of porridge seems to offset this and ,for me it is a cheap snack that tastes top-notch.

Nice Rack! (lol - not often I'd say that to a guy!) What sort of weight do you estimate it'll hold? Certainly looks easier to construct than a metal one (for a non-welder like meself)

Lol, thanks handsome !! I could strengthen the brackets by adding another (they are heavy duty) and the angle is such that i think it could hold ,erm...well i was hanging off it with no trouble, mabie 50/60 kg a side, could be more ..... I will start using it this week and will be able to guage it better in use. It was fairly straightforward to build, took about 3 hours.can send some pics if you need a closer look at any bits. need to get hold of a couple of 20kg plates, I believe index have em for 15 quid each.

Hi Jonny - some extra pics would be excellent bro if you don't mind - I was thinking about getting a Marcy Squat rack but if I can knock one up myself it might save a few much needed quids! Marcy one is rated at 150K (£90 inc. delivery) I can recommend Index for 20K plates - 48 hour delivery I wish I could manage 12 chin-ups - I'd better get some of the lard off to improve power to weight ratio lol!

Thanks dave, I have a spotter, but i may just cobble together some stops incase i fancy a go on me own...can we fix it ? getting DMOS due to last nights workout, legs especially Donny, below are some pics - let us know if you need anythin, I used 4 x 3m lengths of 3x2 - if you wanted to go even sturdier you could use 3x3 wood and just a few basic planks for the other bits.
