Personally i like the routine because its short and sharp which is what its all about right?

Its is hard to get your head around the fact that you are done in about half an hour on most muscle groups and leaves you feeling like you should be doing more but you have just got to walk away and go home to rest!

I'm not on the gear and i dont do this every week as it would probably burn me out in no time, so i do one week on and the following week a do just a general straight set routine then back to it the week after!

Also there is not much compound work in there so i like to get some of this in every other week as in squats, dealifts, barbell press etc.......

Andy.

Well, its not smart to just jump in if you havent already been training. It wasnt too bad for me the first week. The second week sucks the worse.

This routine is very intense. It is not intended for first time lifters or people who haven’t trained in a long time. Going beyond failure is very difficult. The next day you will experience mild to some severe pain. If this routine is what you plan to do your first day back at the gym, I must recommend looking for another routine. I should also add that I no longer follow this routine because I think it overworks the muscles. I do however; perform a similar beyond failure lift for my bicep preacher curls and calf extensions. This routine might be the best one ever. Its just not made for me or anyone who isn’t experienced. I suggest reading the other fat growing routines posted throughout the site.

I don't understand how you can "beyond failure"!! The term speaks for itself. If you have reached Eccentric, concentric and static failure your muscles cannot perform any further no matter how much you get someone to help/unload the bar/do pre-exhaust. If you can impose any force on the bar you have not, by definition, reached total muscular failure.

What I do agree with is the fact that it is extremely hard to reach failure so it is worth employing some of the above methods to get that bit closer.

Just my thoughts. Any ideas?

I can't believe I'm still at work ! Overtime!!

Laters guys

Tim

I used to read a lot of Paul Borenson's work years ago, and I've always wanted to try this kind of training but.... once you train like this how are you ever going to get your body to adapt / grow with normal training. Surely it's like using a sledge hammer to crack a nut ! I belive that you should coax the body into growing with the optimum amount of stress / stimulus not the maximum. Maybe thats why I never got the body wanted or maybe it was all the stellar

Very Interesting article.
This would be perfect for the hardcore of readers who have the time to soley focus on growing and not much else. Possibly juiced up as well.

Ive read this before somewhere.

I would relish the chance to be able to do this training again.

Heres a few reasons why i could dothis type of training anymore.
1. I train alone at 6.30am in the morning
2. I need my bodily functions for my job after training.
3. I train naturally.
4. i have a wonderful girlfriend and life outside of the gym which i need to also reserve energy for.

Anyone else on the same boat as me?

If so, what type of training do you do or reccommed for the usual fat loss/gaining cycles?

PS. seungmena- are you saved? you signature suggests your born again bro??

Did th routine with a good friend of mine for about a month and a half. Got really cut from it. The last two or three weeks really killed me. I could barly walk from class to class in school with that heavy backpack of mine. Must say one of the hardest routines ive ever tried.

I'm working on convincing my training partner to try this routine. I really want to give it a go, but he's scared ****less that he'll be too sore. Might just get him to spot me while I do it.

Training beyond failure does not appear to be a sound concept to me and leads to injuries eventually. The whole over-training idea has been promoted to such a degree that I would not be surprised if a lot of people are not actually working out hard enough.

I've done the Heavy Duty system and High Intensity Training also, aside from strength increases and muscle maintenance it did not do a lot for me. Worse... working out only 1 to 3 times weekly left me feeling lacking in the motivation department, I need regular workouts.

Also, pumping... what the hell is all that about not seeking the pump?? If I don't feel the pump then I don't feel I trained hard enough.

Moving on to reps. I've found that 6 and below is good for strength, 8 to 20 great for size.

Has anyone actually built a great physique on a HIT or HD type systems from the very begining they started lifting weights without using gear?

From this evening, I'm going to increase my training to 7 days a week, let's see.

i think this routine would be good
as:-
-your ripping ur muscle further than a normal routine
-your using ur head so ull get there a bit quicker
-your also not going to work in the gym longer

I think im goan try this

Tried this today for the very first time - quads and hams - OH MY GOD! we started training just after 4pm were done in 40 mins and then sat looking at each other with pained expressions and shaking our heads for 10 minutes before limping out to the car park. I went home had a whey isolate and glucose drink, soaked in the bath for an hour, ate chicken sweet potato and peanut butter and then slept for over an hour - my resting pulse was 100 beats a minute 2 hours after training. I felt nauseuous and this was the most painful thing I have ever done.
After pre-exhausting as described we did smith machine front squats 3 straight sets - 3 plates a side and reps in region of 10 - 15. The pain in the quads - all over was mental. My partner is hooked on heavy basic lifts - currently squats 6½ for 6 reps - he said it would be a waste of time, but i made him promise to give it 100% for the session and he was amazed at the burn and deep muscle pain.
Looking forward to chest and calves!!
Phil
