It seems like a sound routine if you eat and rest enought to get the most from it. I have been thinking about going for it next training cycle. So maybe i will

Saber,
ecto = ectomorph

Someone who, due to thier genetics, carries little muscle or bodyfat and finds it quite difficult to gain either.

Trevor's approach seems to go hand in hand with traditional (probably even ancient) martial arts training methods that are still used today. If anyone has watched documentaries on kickboxing (Muai Thai I think) or Shaolin Monks you often see an extreme approach taken. Examples being punching or kicking solid objects to harden bone and forcibly stretching muscles to the point of tearing them in an attempt to improve flexibility. They also practice methods that enable them to block out pain. This makes sense as he obviously had a lot to do with 'the arts'.

Like has already been said it will probably give a wake-up call to people that think they have been training extreme. Not sure I'd go quite this far myself but I'll definately push my self through a couple of drop sets tonight as a result of reading the article.

Interesting points, but badly written with a dull / rude intro. Like most training ideas could have been presented in a clearer and shorter way. For someone wanting to cut the b*llshit they produced an article thats hard to read and unfocused. Which will have lost many readers, bit of a shame.

Sorry to be negative, the ideas on the other hand all sound to have some merit. Having tried something a little similar ie very intense training continued failure, its very important to know your limits it not about always being a bull and charging ahead but being sorted and knowing when you are risking your health.

Cheers for posting.

buzzer - the link is dead mate
the thing is you have to periodise that sort of intensity or you burn out, physically and mentally.

Personally I cant actually train Trevor's way if I am working on anything mentally demanding as I am just too fubar to concentrate for very long.
But horses for courses, in the less mentally demanding phases of my life its enabled me to really make good progress, but the context of your training has to be taken into account.
You cant train with drops and negs, eat like crap, party lots, and be a builder by trade and expect to do anything but get sick as!

SO who was the real inventor of pre exhaust triple drops?

Paul Boresson or Trev Smith?

[?]
1:Niether of them did its at least over 30 years old and was written about by Arthur Jones (Paul was a Arthur Jones nut) Trev just wanted to go further than Borresen with it.

2:The protein requirements mentioned are based on lean tissue not body weight

3: Trev wrote the GearUzer mags and many articles but no book (i have all his mags here) he had completed his DVD at the time of his death but i wont go into why it was never released.

4: Trevors internet handle was HellSpawn only Nancy and myself knew that !

I say "BRING IT ON!!!"

I've been working in and around the gym scene for 20 years this year (started as a Saturday gym rat at the tender age of 14).

Although I wouldn't suggest this type of training at all for some people, and in very limited doses for others, as far as me and the guys I train with go, it high intensity all the way!

A variation on the drop set is to drop the weight by a percentage (how many of us are really that scientific in the middle of an eye popping workout?), do the reps, rack it, add a few more punds on, and sqeeze out another two or three before dropping again... and again. It's very much a case of two steps back, one step forward.

I must add though that you really should "listen" to your bodies when you train like this. High intensity training does take it's toll, and the odd "relaxing" workout now and again would do you good.

Pump it up and squeeze out one more rep... I lied... make it another two!

Have fun

MM
