pickled onions? 11 January 2012 14:16 (permalink)
so basically been snacking on a few silverskin pickled onions past few days, currently cutting is there anything from looking on the jar theres pretty much nothing to them, is there anything i am missing here or are these ok

p.s. who else loves pickled onions

pps - also trying to think if i can use them in anything to add some flavour to a boring meal like say an omelette but not sure if when diced or whatever they would be a bit too moist lol. might give it a try and see what happens

not sure how bad they are if they are bad at all, maybe too much vinegar bad on the ole stomach?

doesnt stop me downing them , i love them too mate, straight out the jar or on cheese and toast :)

also have a weird fetish for parsons mussels in vinegar, dont like any other kind that much, eat the mussels and drink the vinegar, great for a hangover and sets me on my way to an ulcer

I love them too.  I guess could be a problem if you ate them in excess, with regards to the vinegar.  My dad told me years ago, that a girl who used to work for him - she used to eat like a whole jar a day...anyway one day she got taken ill (to hospital I think?!?) with stomach pains and it transpired it was due to the pickled onion fetish!!

Yeah, I don't buy them often cos if there is anything pickled in our fridge I'm normally straight on it. End out getting a burning feeling in my mouth after a while

LOL @ my fellow pickle addicts above :)

My kryptonite is Garners pickled onions or shallots in malt vinegar, just like my nan used to make. I'll happily eat these until I have stomach pains or until the jar is empty!

My main vice are fat juicy gherkins in sweet vinegar. My wife always get the silverskin onions, she fears the large ones but she needs to learn.

Gran's homemade pickled onions were the bomb..... that generation is slowly disappearing now tho

Traditional pickled onions, and sweet sour gherkins, cutting bulking whenever! There veg at the end of the day so I wolf them down and never count them :D chopped up in a salad is very nice, also gherkins pureed then mixed with other ingredients in homemade burgers are lovely!

I'm a sucker for pickled foods, my favourites have to be gherkins, onions, eggs or beet root. Mmmmmm I could eat beet root all night

                      LOL - Im not alone!

I get told how disgusting I am by numerous people when they see me standing in the kitchen with a jar of pickled onions/beetroot/gherkins in one hand and a fork in the other lol

I don't think the vinegar in large quantities will be doing me any good, but I just luuuurve the pickles lol
