I recommend glutamine - before breakfast when fasted and at other times - usually at least 15g a day - to support the immune system and to provide a conditionally essential amino acid in abundance for anyone I advise who is competing because a comp prep I feel is stressful enough on the body to warrant this. For others - again - given the cheapness of bulk buying glutamine - i advice the above as a great insurance. of course - remember when starting glutamine to take no more than 5g at a time - and to taper up spending a few days at 5g, then each increment up to your intended intake. glutamine has a reputation of being a rather excellent laxative when you have gotten accustomed to it !!!!!

Taking protein shakes before training help you to get an extra boost in your training (most protein shakes include other additives to boost energy). Taking protein shakes after training gives the maximum muscle gain as that's the time when the muscles need food to replenish and grow.
