(The Truth)

My body don't like converting glucose from protein (bit of a carb type) so if I eat a 40% protein 30%carbs and 30%fat diet (all good sources) I can nearly lose weight with out exercise. Add in cardio and weight lifting I know for a fact I can lose weight when ever I want, its all about working out your body type is I think. First time I did that macro split with strict training I lost 7 pounds in one week and no strength loss..

Edit - And I'd just like to say a thank you to Will brink for his science no bull**** approach to fat lose and weight lifting, got me on the right track, would recommend fat loss revealed
Re:What's your weight loss story? (robbie68)

  Hi!

After a long lay off I thought I'd post here, used to be quite active here over a decade ago (was it that long??) before the server change, hence the low post count.
I was at one point a competitive amateur bodybuilder (though nothing special, it was a hobby) - the biggest weight loss I had was for contest prep back in 2002 where I dropped from an off season weight of 280lbs down to 220lbs in 16wks of cutting which was bloody hard work! I trained religiously from 1998 to 2007 when half way through the year I was diagnosed with Lymphoma, a type of blood cancer - I've been healthy(ish) for a while now but haven't trained since 2007 so nearly five years.
I started going back to the gym about 2 weeks ago, mostly because I'd moved house and their is a pretty decent old school gym on my doorstep so I've not had any excuse not to go. It's a lot harder than I remember! I'm not looking to get back to anywhere near where I was, the level of dedication to commit to bodybuilding like in the past is just something I don't have any more but I'd still like to look better than I do now!
Currently I'm tipping the scales at a hefty 315lbs @ 6ft 1" but I'm still carrying some muscle underneath the flab. I'm hoping to be down to around 260lbs by the back end of the year. I'm not a stranger to losing weight so hopefully I can keep the motivation up and keep pounding the gym!
I've attached a couple of pics I took in the gym last week and hopefully upload a couple more in a months or so time to see what the difference is :)

Re:What's your weight loss story? (westbelfastguy)

I was a fat kid as long as I can remember. I was unhappy, bullied and introverted and ended up in a catch 22 situation. I ate, was bullied cos i ate too much, ate more cos of how it made me feel and on and on.....

I've been a gym member for a few years but lacked the motivation to really take it seriously until this year, even tho I joined MT last year.

In May of this year I was 17st 5lb, wearing 38" jeans (uncomfortably) then I switched gyms and, to mixed reaction on here, hired a personal trainer.

After the first 10 weeks I was down to 15st 5 and had dropped 16 inches from over my body and was in slightly loose 36" jeans.

A few weeks back I was down to 13st 10lb and now wear comfortable 34" jeans that are starting to get loose.

Total dietary change. Pretty strict during the week, low carbs, lots of fruit and veg, tuna, chicken, that sorta thing and then an off day on sundays. Gym 4/5 times a week with one of those sessions being a PT session.

Big focus in the first load of weeks was the bigger musclegroups to get my metabolism up high. Now tho the annoying bodyfat is around the middle still so doing a lot of core and ab work to try and trim that down.

Will see if i can find an old pic and take a new one to put up for comparison later
Re:What's your weight loss story? (J4MRU)

  Nice Stories here guys.

Mine starts when I was 18. All through my youth I played ALOT of football and nearly made it to a decent playing level, where I would have been playing at Junior level. At age 16 I had scounts watching me (and a couple other lads) but little was I to know, this was my last game of football... :(

I could basically eat how I wanted and the weight stayed off. When I stopped playing I started on a slippery slope, and over the next couple of years I would gain weight gradually. in 2006 aged about 21, my missus and I had out first child. In the lead up to his birth I decided to get in shape and shift some weight, so I succesfully managed to get from 16 & Half stone to just over 15 stone. Parenthood hit me hard and I started to neglect myself, where when my son was sleeping, I was getting me time infront of the TV and the Playstation!! In 2008 I got married and although I decided to try lose the weight (AGAIN - Pattern emerging!) I managed to gain and was sitting at the heaviest I had ever been at around 19 & half stone.

So gradually up until May 2009 when my daughter was born, I had been losing weight. I put this down to maturing maybe? But I certainly wasn't trying, and generally felt crap as I always did. It wasn't much but it seemed to drop a pound or so over a long period. In Feb / March 2011 I decided enough was enough and I wanted to lose weight. Things between my wife & I were not great and she was struggling to "love" the person I had become. Alot of damage had been done in our relationship as we are talking a few years of this. Pic below is a trip to London with my missus where I weighed 18st 8lbs!!

After this trip, I made a decision to basically just eat healthier, less crap basically and exercise alot more. So needles to say the weight had started dropping off, and I have found myself at 15st 8lbs - 15st 11lbs. I have REALLY been struggling to lose weight recently and have decided that changes are needed. So I found MuscleTalk, and I am trying to gain the knowledge I need to carry on my transformation. I dont have anymore body pics at the moment but I have two of me very recently. Like I say the last two months have seen no weight loss. I am unfortunate as I work offshore so I am at the mercy of the galley! :( But it can be done by eating smart and supplementing. Advice is welcome and below are my latest pics!

Cheers for reading! I appreciate it.

***EDIT FOR NEW PIC ***

As you can see I'm still very "fluffy", hit a brick wall or plateau.... (acky81)

ok heres my story, things started to go downhill for me when i turned 25.I split from my partner of 10 years and the mother of my 3 children, she met someone else got married and moved 200 miles away,so i went from seeing my kids everyday to once every other month. This is when i started to pile the weight on and let the depression and alcohol take over me,i went from 14 stone up to 20 stone and from a night out on a saturday to drinking everyday i also started smoking and was going through about 40 a day, i quit playing football and going to work and just hid my head from the world
This carried on for 4 years resulting in quite a few health problems including type 2 diabetes and a return of my child hood asthma with avengence.I then met my new partner and promised myself id turn my life around however i hadnt truly realised how much of a grip alcohol had taken on me and i found it near impossible to stop until 6 months ago i ended up in hospital with liver problems and diabetes complications. The doctor told me that if i didnt turn my life around it wouldnt last much longer, so on june 21st of this year 2 months before my 30th birthday i started a diet and training programe weighing 19 stone 12lbs and able to run 50 yards before collapsing being sick and unable to breath.Im now 18 weeks in, havent touched alcohol or fags am running 10 miles 3 times a week and weight training 3 times a week my weight is 17 stone 3lbs and i feel fitter than when i was playing semi pro football at 18.Since starting training my liver results are back to normal my asthma is well under controll and my diabetes seems to have dissapeared without meds for the meantime. My goal now is to get my weight back to 14 stone 8lbs and keep away from the alcohol and fags.It hasnt been easy and theres times id love to say sod it and grab an 8 pack and a kebab but then i think how far ive come and how dissapointed my kids would be if i chucked it all away now

Re:What's your weight loss story? (Jondaltry1234)

The best condition I ever got in was when I stayed off the alcohol for a few months. My diet was good at the time and I was training pretty often but I always had a bit of a beer belly. Then I didn't drink for a while and the weight started falling off. I didn't drink daily at the time I was overweight but I suppose 2 nights at the weekend and the odd one through the week added up.
Re:What's your weight loss story? (Freddie_Roach)

Hello fellow forum members! Im Freddie, 22 Year old Uni Student. Here is my weight loss story so far. I did boxing for about three years (couple of amatuer bouts ) Until out club got burnt down! :-( . This put me back and I didnt train for over a year. A downward spiral of late nights and crap food followed. It felt good to get out of the strict boxing regime. It felt good to eat whatever i wanted. I eventually got very lazy and piled on the pounds.

I finally decided to do something about it. I joined my local gym about 4months ago and have gone down from a lard over 14stone to 12st 6lb. Feel alot better but really want to get back to my fighting weight of 11stone. I feel iv plateaued and nothing i will do will increase the weight loss. I have been on a course of Pro oxy elite tabs for the last month And because of this i feel the sessions alot more. Im looking to go onto a ECA stack within the next week and cut out the pro oxy completely. About one more stone of weight loss + Muscle definition and i would be a VERY happy guy! I have recently started lifting weights to go alongside my intense cardio sessions ( FITT Principle, Interval training, HR Zones) and feel better. Cardio has always been my forte so im going to have alot of questions on the muscle building side. Anyway i feel im rambling now but just wanted to tell you abit about my journey so far. Heres some before and after photos of my journey. Please be nice! :-) . Going to take a few more once iv hit the 11st mark. Which will hopefully be within the next two months! Thanks for reading and i wish everyone luck on their journeys. Peace

5 months ago 2 Month Ago 1 Month Ago
14St 12St 10lb 12St 6lb
