I have to admit I got bossed, but the crowd seemed to like that I kept fighting, got a big cheer when the lad came over and lifted my hand up, I didn't expect that level of respect.

To be honest, some of the thai boxing and full contact shows I've been to have been more moody...one time in Birmingham this guy complained about how late the show was going on and all the dodgy matchups, the promoter told the door men to not let him leave the place til he'd fought!
Re:Unlicenced boxing (Spirit Guide)

whatever you do just stay out of bricktops pocket
Re:Unlicenced boxing (Tony Barnes)

Videoman

I boxed on 3 of them in 1996, I done a ticket deal, I got half the money of the tickets I sold, earnt £3,000 a fight, 4 rounders, luvvly jubbly

You should slap up your boxing pics Eric - all trim and with a ega 'tash
Re:Unlicenced boxing (gamma83)

kinglean

gamma83

Hi All, looking to get into the above, but unsure where to start, who to contact etc. Can anybody point me in the direction of a promoter or any upcoming events that i can get involved in?

thanks

What part of Britain are you in mate?

Have you any previous boxing experience?

Hi there,

Am based in Oxfordhire, South Midlands, but can travel. I mean, sparring about 3 rounds start to take their toll on me but fighting full pelt is another story.

My mate won debut fight (with me the loudest in the crowd egging him on and shouting, eat him, come on!), it was a good night.

Id recommend if you havent done it before, to watch a live fight, boxing, mma or any full contact.

I then watched kick boxing the next day, a mates mate fought, came in 2nd but damn, it was boring as heck. No contact, some guys were just winning by just tapping their opponents head guard or body.

Next, its Muay Thai in Seven oaks this sat, also a mma event in watford colesseum next month iirc and an annual Muay Thai events on Dec 5 iirc.
Re:Unlicenced boxing (scottishkboxr)

odog RE: beer and fighting not good combo!!
depends if ur fighting someone beer'd up lol pls inbox me scottish fight dates and where be fighting not for myself just now coz iv still got the pretty boy look going on (and enjoying it :D )but would be sound to watch a proper bout no rules btw anyone fighting wishing u all the best stick n move lmao hahahahaahahaha
Re:Unlicenced boxing (scottishkboxr)

i would love too watch some proper matches the only ones iv heared of are 150+ miles south in edinbugh or glasgow but i dont drive yet we get fights up here but there all borring -contact fights but to many rules- any one know any north scotland bouts pls PM ! ta

Re:Unlicenced boxing (odog)

crowds are never well behaved at any fight!! unless its top draw! beer and fighting not good combo!!
Re:Unlicenced boxing (Stone)

Are the crowds generally well behaved?

Ive never been to one but a friend has a bout in 3 weeks time. That ultimately why I stopped. Best thing I did however was to get back into training. Not sure where to go from here re unlicensed or even white collar (I have actually found a couple of places locally who offer 'real' bouts) but at least I'm sorting my life out again - worst case scenario I will get back in shape - we all know what boxing training can do
Re:Unlicenced boxing (1ManRiot)

elmo

Guess i've been lucky by the sound of it!
I can only speak as I have found but i'm sure there are some slighty more dodgy organisations out there.
Trouble is - what are our options?
I'm 38 - too old for the amateurs and BBBofC would never issue a license at this age (only ever boxed as amateur but got fed up with opposition not turning up) so options are;

Unlicensed - with the 'risks' mentioned above or,
White collar - but why knock your pan out training when the best you can hope for is a draw (TRFC - its about taking part...) I would rather lose but know why than hammer a guy a get the draw.
There are some other white collar organisations about but I have seen ex pros and good amateurs boxing on them and hammering the opposition so I guess the risk is there whatever. These guys boxing on these shows is no different to a juiced up, synthol filled bodybuilder entering a drug free contest - what have they actually achieved?
I'm sure there is a massive opportunity as a promoter here to set up an honest, equal organisation that gives 'joe public' the opportunity to fight fairly with a like for like opponent.
Any takers..........................

Just to pick up a point, I boxed amateur but I'm still technically unboxed as I never had a single opponent turn up in two years of holding a licence in 3 years of training. Also spectated a lot of amateur events and it was almost like the results were pre-determined; no matter how the fight went, it was like the judges had already agreed a winner beforehand. People would get knocked all over the place and win! Also got tricked into attending for a fight at Kendal town hall, when we turned up, we were basically told "too many had turned up" so they were going to reorganise the fighters and match it up there and then. Turns out it was basically to put on a show for fat, local business men and they matched up complete novices with people who'd won 8-9 fights. I was matched up as unboxed with a lad heavier than me and with 5 or something wons on his card! Farce. Thankfully my trainer took us all (there was two adults and 3 or 4 kids fighting) and took us all home, pulled us out the comp.
Everyone seems to be in everyone elses pocket.

I'm 25 now and just been back boxing a fortnight and it feels good.
Re:Unlicenced boxing (elmo)

Guess i've been lucky by the sound of it!
I can only speak as I have found but i'm sure there are some slighty more dodgy organisations out there.
Trouble is - what are our options?
I'm 38 - too old for the amateurs and BBBofC would never issue a license at this age (only ever boxed as amateur but got fed up with opposition not turning up) so options are;

Unlicensed - with the 'risks' mentioned above or,
White collar - but why knock your pan out training when the best you can hope for is a draw (TRFC - its about taking part...)
