I'm a massive fan of fibre...

Even ignoring the well understood digestive health benefits. For me the satiety benefits are fantastic...

I always up fibre when cutting and it makes it so much easier. Hemp could be a great way to up fibre (and get in a little protein at the same time).

Re:Hemp Protein Qs (ERGO)

"There are other considerations to be a '5' though; processing can cause significant losses of micronutrition and anutrition, meaning they are limited. As in the example of commercial smoothies which can now, more recently, only claim as 'one of the 5 per day' no matter how much is consumed "

Agreed (I do say that I don't think you should think of it as a replacement for either or).

I do think that Hemp Powder is something that could definitely find it's way into a good diet though - although I have to be honest and say it hasn't found it's way into my shopping basket yet.

Re:Hemp Protein Qs (James)

There are other considerations to be a '5' though; processing can cause significant losses of micronutrition and anutrition, meaning they are limited. As in the example of commercial smoothies which can now, more recently, only claim as 'one of the 5 per day' no matter how much is consumed

Re:Hemp Protein Qs (ERGO)

I would suggest to James that the description Hemp "Protein Powder" is a little misleading as all the products that I am aware of on the market are max 50% protein. On the flip side of this is that they generally contain a good level of PUFA fats and a high level of fibre (18% plus). Personally I think they would be better marketed as Hemp Powder.

This means that from a fibre perspective alone they will help to replace/contribute to your "5 a day" - if you believe that to be enough?!

Can't comment on the micronutrient content as never seen a breakdown. My gut feel is however (considering the raw material source and the limited amount of processing involved) that Hemp Protein Powder would be a good source of at least B Vits (like a leafy green). But I've absolutely nothing to back that up with.

Fruit is fruit and veg is veg - not sure you should be using Hemp Powder to replace either. But for me the short of it is that Hemp Powder (protein or otherwise) is a good nutritional wholefood that could help make up a balanced diet.

ERGO
Re:Hemp Protein Qs (James)

theiopener

Eh, where is my post?

which post? There's one right above; can't you see it?

Re:Hemp Protein Qs (theiopener)

 Eh, where is my post?
Re:Hemp Protein Qs (theiopener)

Agricultural hemp is a different strain which has a THC content of 0.2% and under.

There is also medical grade hemp which has a far higher content. However, best check with the countries embassy before going.
Re:Hemp Protein Qs (James)

cumwithmeifuwan2liv

Would consuming Hemp Protein powder count towards your daily Veg intake?

No, because for veg to be counted it needs to have fibre and micronutrients present in natural amounts.

This may also sound like a silly question, but what is the legal status of Hemp Powder in most countries? I know THC levels are very low so you aren't going to get high on the stuff but I plan to take some away to thailand and don't fancy getting 99 years for carrying 2 kilos of hemp power lol.

I haven't a clue; and I have never come across this issue before!

Hemp Protein Qs (cumwithmeifuwan2liv)

Would consuming Hemp Protein powder count towards your daily Veg intake?

This may also sound like a silly question, but what is the legal status of Hemp Powder in most countries?
