Try them on the smith machine in the corner. You can focus more on the movement than keeping the balance because you're not worried about the bar being lopsided! Walking lunges are good as well

Re:Looking for a good gym in Braintree (Tigs33)

hehe so what are the men like in the weights room - do they just leave you to get on with it, I hate it when the men look just to see if you are looking at them!!! LOL

Sounds like it could be idea.

Are you following any particular lifting plan at all? I have just been reading The New Rules of Lifting for Women by Lou Schuler. It is very good - just need to get down the gym and start perfecting squats and lunges (I have horrendous balance and co-ordination) and best really if I could train in an empty room!!!

Re:Looking for a good gym in Braintree (Welshy)

Fridays are always dead in there.

I train Mon-Thurs but don't get there until about 6.30pm when it can get a little busy but to be honest it's never so busy that you can't get anything done.

When I used to go to the gym straight after work I would get there about 5.30pm ish and I think it was a little quieter then

Will be great to see another lady in the weights room.. I'm the only bugger that goes in there
Re:Looking for a good gym in Braintree (Tigs33)

 Thanks for the advice Welshy.

Popped to CHF today, and was shown around the gym and weights room, weights room looks nice and big (unlike Xpect's area which is rather small)

I would get to the gym around 4.45pm does it get very busy during the week at that time do you know? It was fairly quiet tonight (about 6.10pm when I visited)

Re:Looking for a good gym in Braintree (Welshy)

If you're looking for somewhere with a nice pool, steam room, fitness classes, coffee shop and cardio stuff then it's nice but if you're more serious about weight training it's not so good.

I always found it a bit clicky as well, you'd get the ladies who lunch spending more time in the bistro than in the gym lol

It's quite expensive too, was £59 a month when I left 2 years ago. CHF is £57 a month for both myself and the other arf!

Will have to give you a shout when we do a little training meet next
Re:Looking for a good gym in Braintree (Tigs33)

LOL Welshy is Xpect really that bad????

No, new to Braintree, lived there now for about 10 years - used to live in Colchester

Re:Looking for a good gym in Braintree (Welshy)

Noooo avoid Xpect like the plauge !

It's a poncy health club with silly prices.

As Hazel has said, CHF is a great gym, lots of equipment and a really good atmosphere

Probably about half the price too

Are you new to Braintree ?

Re:Looking for a good gym in Braintree (Hazel)

Tigs33

Hi,

I am a newbie hear, looking for a good gym in Braintree, especially for weights.

I know of Xpect Health but not sure of any others in the area.

Thanks

There is Complete Health & Fitness in Braintree. Few members train there and I went there with Welshy, nice atmosphere and a good range of equipment.

http://www.completehealthandfitness.co.uk/
Looking for a good gym in Braintree (Tigs33)

 Hi,

I am a newbie here, looking for a good gym in Braintree, especially for weights.

I know of Xpect Health but not sure of any others in the area.

Thanks
