The pre-workouts help with vasodilation, nitrogen uptake, faster shuttling of sugars into the muscles, increased focus, greater pumps and alongside this alos deliver a good energy boost.

Its a little trial and error to find the ingredient profile that works bet with you but I personally love them and think they are great for weight orientated training. they are however not really suitable for cardio or endurance sessions due to the pump they provide you can cramp out a little.

They are worth there money if you are the type of person who already pushes themselves hard in the gym without issue and trains week in week out consistently. When used alongside this type of intensity they really can improve your training sessions.
Re:VPX NO Shotgun (Varga)

On monstersupps' it's £29.96 for 588g. I didn't know if it was worth it but wanted to give it a go. Are you saying you can get the same effects for a fraction of the price with other supplements?
Re:VPX NO Shotgun (uj)

Varga

I'm not sure what you're getting at but "bench press strength 1,108.2% greater gains" seems a bit odd, no?

I was playing Devil's advocate.
i think the numbers off the top of my head were shotgun 10 or 11lbs bench press increase, placebo about 1.5 or 1.75 lbs.
shotgun is 50 quid rrp for 644g is 28 servings or something, about 2 quid a go?

basically bit of protein, creatine, bcaa, arginine, beta-alanine type thing.
I love the pretty graphs-i'm a sucker for that stuff.

lean mass muscle increases in 4 weeks of study
placebo 1kg
shotgun 2.5kg

placebo was maltodextrin type thing.

Re:VPX NO Shotgun (Varga)

I'm not sure what you're getting at but "bench press strength 1,108.2% greater gains" seems a bit odd, no?
Re:VPX NO Shotgun (uj)

weejimmy

I recently bought this and have only used it once so far. I did feel like I had more energy in the gym and could have kept on going for longer. However, is it really worth buying, or could I have had a cup of coffee and had the same effect? Would you recommend taking something before working out or is it not necessary? Do myprotein.co.uk do a similar product?

Are we all on the same page with this product?
20g of protein from casein protein hyrolysate, whey pro hydro, ionic whey pro, leucine , valine, glutamine , arginine, in various forms for the aminos, 10g from various creatines, citrulline malate, arginine, beta-alanine, kic, etc
and energy booster from caffeine, tyrosine, hordenine, beta phenylethylamine/methphenylethylamine, etc.

lean mass 181.1 % Greater
bench press strength 1,108.2% greater gains
leg press strength 53.5% greater gains
myofibrillar protein 107.2% greater gains
total muscle dna 148%
myogenic regulatory factors 515% greater increase(Myo-D).
Re:VPX NO Shotgun (weejimmy)

Thanks ice, I'll keep that in mind.
Re:VPX NO Shotgun (Icemansoldier)

Monster - i disagree that it has ingrediants that will improve strength if taken just pre wo, taking creatine and/or beta alanine pre wo is not thought to have any effect. You need to take both for a while for them to work.

From looking at the ingrediants vpx shotgun should give you a boost in energy and focus.

Jimmy - if you want something simple, effective, yet cheap, i would go for caffeine 200mg tablets and take one about 30mins pre wo, ime it gives me energy and delays the onset of fatigue. If you prefer a drink, a strong coffee or 1/2 cans of kick pre wo should do the job.
Re:VPX NO Shotgun (Icemansoldier)

Cant remember entirely but it worked well for me, and as monster has says while a cup of coffee may give you a boost, pre wo supps have other ingrediants as well as caffeine to support your workout.

Whether its worth it depends on how much your paying per serv and how effective is it for you?

Interesting it has 20g protein in it, i didnt know that.

Re:VPX NO Shotgun (monster supplements)

a product of that nature is not simply stimulant based to aid with mental alertness. it also contains ingredients to increase anaerobic capacity, strength, musceular endurance, muscle pumps, nutrient delivery, and shotgun is quite unique in that it contains 20g protein per serving. there are a lot of benefits of a pre-workout supplement over caffeine alone.
VPX NO Shotgun (weejimmy)

I recently bought this and have only used it once so far. I did feel like I had more energy in the gym and could have kept on going for longer. However, is it really worth buying, or could I have had a cup of coffee and had the same effect? Would you recommend taking something before working out or is it not necessary? Do myprotein.co.uk do a similar product?
