(MT2006)

You could not market it at bodybuilders in a supermaket, its too much of a niche. You would have to pass it off as healthy food for those wanting to eat healthy, which appeals to a wider public.

The problem with this is the fact your USP would be the nutritional breakdown - i.e. you would have high protein content, suitable carbs, etc. Those who weight train and are in the know may then purchase your products, but your selling price would be higher than the high profile food retailers who produce healthy products (for countless reasons; economies of scale, the price of your higher quality ingredients), so I doubt you would be given any shelf space in the first place due to the price you would have to charge. A housewife wanting the healthy choice would likely pick up the weightwatchers ready meal which a quid or two cheaper.

Re:Anyone ever wonder..... (john_cappa)

Its a niche that has some merit i think.

Most mass markets begin as niches.

Large companies ignore niches as they are not worth exploiting as if you have a billion dollar business and have ambition for growth of 5-10% per annum then small niches are not worth the hassle.

A small company could exploit this though.

The niche could then very easily more mainstream when people see they have a choice between a "junk" ready meal and a "healthy" ready meal, especially with how health conscious people are becoming these days will begin to choose the healthy option.

The biggest problem with this would be to start off you would want to brand it BB specific but to move mass market they you would need to loose this branding to avoid the stigma attached.
Re:Anyone ever wonder.....
