shworth's humorously titled SUC thread 04 September 2011 17:05 (permalink)
I think I've so far started and dropped out of 4 shape-up threads.

Currently weighing in at 16stone dead which is the heaviest I've been for a long time, unfortunately I'm about 79% bodyfat. Last time I did any training was August of last year.

I'm 6'2" and my belly, at the largest point is too big to measure, and I can't find a tape measure.

My goal is to drop 2 stone so that I can fit back into all my clothes. Also I'm going to Australia in December  and don't want to get sand stuck under my rolls of back fat where I can't reach.

I have a  few ECA left over from a while ago which I may use along the way if I start to struggle but other than that just food

Here are my pics, didn't realise how small I'd resized them. I can redo if anyone feels they need to admire me more intimately.

                  Cheers guys.

I went to blast the treadmill last night.

Last time I was on a treadmill I ran 10k in under an hour, last night I managed to jog, walk and stagger a very slow and difficult 4.5k

I enjoyed it though and feel good today, so tonight I'm back on it.

Just getting myself comfortable with the cardio before starting back on weights next week

                        I was surprising ok.

Just been and done the same again. Didn't want to try and last longer, happy just to keep at the same level for a week or so before pushing it up a notch.

                          One week down.

Diet has been spot on so far. Only having two meals a day as it's what I'm used to but they have been healthy chicken and veg every day and then a healthy curry and a prawn salad yesterday, instead of the usual chicken kiev & coleslaw muffins for lunch followed by a takeaway curry & fried rice and a few beers for dinner.

I've been to the gym 4 times this week, each just for cardio, I did a mixture of walking and running each time.

                          4.5km, 4.5km, 5.5km, 5.5km

5.5km is now my minimum standard for cardio and I plan to go to the gym 5 days next week.

Weighed in at 15st8lbs which is a loss of 6lbs

Pretty happy so far. Going to get another week of solid cardio out of the way then start with the weights and adjust my diet.

I think I'll stick to it more if I get used to it bit by bit rather than completely change my whole routine straight away.

I'm not expecting as big a loss next week, maybe 3lbs or so, I think the first week always gives the biggest change.

                              Two weeks in.

I had a really good week this week, stuck on diet and did 3 x 6km on the treadmill, then weekend came and I didn't do well at all.

                              Friday, had some beers
Saturday, went for a meal, had some beers and a dessert
Sunday, lazed around then ate 6 bacon butties before bed

So not a total disappointment as I managed for the majority of the week, just a poor effort at the weekend

Weighed in this morning at 15st9lb which is a lb up on last week, but I think some of that is down to eating six slices of white bread just before bed

Now my fitness is back up to a more acceptable level I'm going to start running outdoors instead of the treadmill and will be starting back on the weights tomorrow.

This shape-up has been a bit of a weird one for me.

I started off well, then kind of forgot about it.

I've only been to the gym a handful of times, however my diet has improved. I've really cut down on the drinking and have hardly any takeaways any more. Been eating healthy and also been having much smaller portion sizes than before.

In the last week I've been out running a few times and on weighing in this morning I've lost 1 stone, 4lbs since starting - so need to lose another 10lbs to reach my target.

Although I am under no illusion about winning the shape-up comp I am very pleased with my progress, mainly as it has been a change to my lifestyle that has fitted in easy, rather than a time-consuming, all or nothing activity that I would more than likely stop as soon as the shape-up ends.

I have 11 days left and I don't think losing 10 lbs will be the smartest thing to do, however I would like to drop another 4 lbs before the end of the comp and then another 6lbs before I go away on 21st December which I think should be doable just by upping my exercise slightly.

So, pleased with my progress so far but probably not the best for a shape-up comp

This will be the first shape-up comp that I actually complete.

Off-topic, and more of a passing comment than anything else, your posture is very forward-biased for want of a better term, definitely worth having a look at IMO and bringing the shoulders back and head up.
