spray painting metal to a decent finish 26 January 2012 14:59 (permalink)
well it's worth a shot, managed to confuse something painted for something enamelled and stripped the bugger!!

So I need to repaint this item to a goodish standard (partially sighted elderly lady )

Any tips?

I'll drop a line to a couple of the paint guys i know at Ford Dunton. If they're being lazy i'll get a repsonse immediately, busy then i may never get a reply.

tbf she was as sound as a pound, she wasn't bothered about having them sprayed but I couldn't leave her with two bare pieces of metal on each side, it looked god awful, hence imo the finish doesn't have to be perfect

if your gunna use spray tins leave them in a bowl of warm water for half hour before spraying. use a hairdryer to warm the metal your spraying aswell.

but rub down the metal with wet n dry sandpaper 800grit (wet) first. dry the metal warm it. use light dab dab spray movement untill area is covered. then when its dry 3 hours later use 1200 wet n dry (wet) rub it down. before final coat

1 more after each dab spray movement use some old cloth and wipe the nozzle ov the can. so not to et blobs.
dont use a clear coat after its awfull from tinns dulls it
