CitizenKane Sax I watched the school's cup finals today Clongowes won it I believe, what was the score? I have loads of friends from both Clongowes and Michaels and there was some serious tension going on! Clongowes won easily...but I was talking about the MacRory Cup and Ulster School's Cup :)

Why do saints not have surnames ? St. Paddy who ?
As far as I know, forgiveness is for the benefit of the person doing the forgiving, not the one being forgiven

Fat Pete Why do saints not have surnames ? St. Paddy who ? Good question. Perhaps its like the Brazilian footballer thing. The are only referred to with one part of their name but they actually have a full one.

The are only referred to with one part of their name but they actually have a full one. I sincerely doubt this. The Brazilians have a really long name, take fat Ronaldo as he used to be called. His name is Ronaldo Luis Nazario de Lima. Isn't it so much easier to just call him Ronaldo.

minidorian Dont get all the fuss. Why do english people celebrate it? Its allover facebook etc.. and it just annoys me. Is it because its 'cool' to be irish or celebrate it? St Patrick was actually English mate. I make the effort every year usually as my family are from Ireland, unfortunately im on the wagon otherwise id have a hangover to be proud of today!

Not sure whether Romanised-Britons of the 5th century had surnames, maybe he was known as Patrick, son of Calpornius...

St Patricks day annoys me greatly, everyone coming out ofthe woodwork claiming that there Mothers 3rd cousin twice removed is Irish and therefore so are they and it gives them a reason to drink all day. Nottingham City Center was full of these dickheads sat in Yates and Wetherspoons wearing green t-shirts and shamrocks...do they not realise how moronic it is?

There really are some miserable people on here! I went to the local Irish pub (in Clapham) wearing my Kiss me I'm Irish T-shirt, drank sub standard Guinness, got very drunk and fell over, started a fight and walked home singing wearing a large oversized novelty hat! You people just have no Class!

Saying someone wasn't English because they were born before the English actually existed as a people is hardly nit picking.
