I think HIIT is just one piece of the puzzle. Alot of guys say do complexes like cosgraves 8 but this will cause you injury and major fatigue unless you very fit and can do them properly. I would advise regular interval training on fitness machines, a track or on the road in combination will long distance running or 30 minute workouts on the fitness machines at a good pace (60-65% max heart rate = fat burning / higher than this = endurance/fitness improvement zone).

It has it's place as part of a varied cardio programme, but variety is the key rather than looking for one 'golden chalice' type of exercise for fat burning. There's a lot of bro science about fat loss and muscle retention with regards cardio types, but the main thing as always is diet and keeping lifting. Any cardio spikes the metabolism and increases fitness - this makes the body more efficient at dealing with the fat content in your diet, and the absorbtion rate of it. The body doesn't work session on session, day on day or even week on week, so the key is to find the overall diet, weights and cardio set up that works best for your cut.

Try 10 mins of sprints after your weights, put your body in a more anabolic state... 1 min on (sprint) / 1 min off (walk)

Doing HIIT for your cardio just leads to mental burnout if your doing it all the time.

Due to time constraints the only conventional HIIT I do is rowing. The rest of my CV is BW conditioning type stuff like burpees and BW squats. Working well, CV is never more than 15-20 mins and you probably get a better 'metabolic conditioning' effect.
