I'm a novice in the gym and on my 2nd proper week of stronglifts, it's easy and I quite enjoy it, best advice people will give is leave the ego at the door because you start on an empty bar and work up on the weights slowly.

As above really, it's a very good routine that works.

You'll make gains and your body shape will change too. Everyone's gains are different but I increased about 20-30kg across the lifts, so much so that I still have the basis of stronglifts at the core of my programming - even though I train to powerlift.

I've just started training again and now I'm following stronglifts 5x5. Three weeks in and really enjoying it. I didn't start with an empty bar but with small weight and have been progressing as planned.

Give it a go. I think 12 weeks is just the start (period to convince you the workout does work) and then you continue until you can no longer add weight even after several de loads.

I used to hate squats but now there are may fav exercise :-)

Just a quick question about it, as I'm still just watching the videos and reading the free PDF (but I did dive in and start already today!).

I presume you start at a weight for something, then complete the 5x5's for it, and ONLY increase the weight next A or B workout ?

Yes. When you subscribe to get the pdf document they should also send you an excel spreadsheet which details exactly what the routines look like and how much weight to add on each workout.
It's quite nice to see the weight you'll end up lifting after 12 weeks.
They recommend starting with just an olympic bar (20kg) and add 2.5 each workout. If that's too easy then you can add 5kg which I have done a few times fir squats and dead lifts.

Sprained my ankle playing football yesterday so im gonna have to switch squats for several leg machine exercises which is annoying!

Literally just before going to bed I suddenly realised that once I tapped in my current 5x5 weights, heh.
It looks really good, simple and I'm definitely going to pack some strength on (despite how weak I am!)

Sprain should heal up in no time bud.

Dunno if this helps but if you have an iPhone there also an app which tracks your progress and tells you what weights to use next time.

I've found it quite useful, my main problem with stronglifts is that due to my shift patterns and my gyms opening times I struggle to maintain going ever other day.

Work's a right ballache when it comes to finding the time for the gym, three days up in Glasgow for me at the moment so I last trained on Saturday morning, and if I'm lucky I might get a session in tomorrow.

Still, the food bill's got to be paid somehow.
