What is your daily calorie intake?

      This.....

      Ok, firstly welcome to MT.

The simple answer is this..... To lose weight you need to eat in a calorie deficit, and to increase weight you need to have a calorie surplus.

Your diet needs improving, but this can be done easily. However you need to understand what you put in your body and why. Also, as already said, you need to work out the total calories, and the macro break down (Protein, carbs and fats)

It sounds like a pain in the arse, but it really will help your results and make things easier.

I love the smell of steak in the morning...

wow that was really hard to figure out my calories i have never done it before and thought my cook books would tell me i was wrong lol. ok working from my food diarys over last few weeks i am eating on average 1000 calories a day surley i cant eat less then that can i. I am also exercising and had a look to see what calories insanity burns and that is around 600 for up 24 hours after training which i do 6 days a week. plus walking dog or  walking any where i need to go as sold car month ago as thought it would help with weight loss but its just  yo yo ing a couple pound i want serious results.

How do you KNOW this is 1000 cals?  What is your sample every day diet including food weight?  Please don't tell us what you think it should be but what it actually generally is!

well done for making the effort to lose weight.

as above - use something like myfitnesspal.com or find a calorie counter for your age weight height sex etc. and minus 300 cals for the first week, then 500. it really is just about cal in cal out.

also that does seem very carb rich and i dont think thats only 1000 cals tbh

also with insanity are you doing the course? thats a session each day 6days - the full 40-60mins at an intense pace?

personally i dont think that diet is good at all. i would cut most of the carbs. sausages are very rich in saturated fat. spinach, green veg, salad is your friend eat as much as you like with a lean meat.

oats, blueberries or protein shake with oats belnded in could replace breakfast, or an ommelette. if youre going to have tea with sugar use xylitol or a natural sweetener. avoid the fruit at night as its rich in sugars. you make the curry from scratch or form a jar of concentrate? those jars are super rich in sat fats. i would be eating more protein in the way of a shake or lean meats (chicken is great) and salad and/or veg. its not just about the calories its what those are made up of and when/how often you eat them, and you need to count all of them - 10 grapes = sugar, glass of milk = fat and sugar etc etc.

you should be eating 5-6 small regular meals throughout the day to make up your daily cal needs.

            try:

            9am - oats, blueberries, omellette
11am - protein shake (can replace with small protein/green veg/salad meail)
            1pm - pasta, spag etc etc carb/meat/veg
3pm - protein shake (can replace with small protein/green veg/salad meail)
6pm - chicken breast, veg and salad, some carb if you want (brown rice etc etc)
9pm - omellette or very low fat/carb (including sugars) soup, or if you are not that hungry a protein shake or natural yoghurt, or cottage cheese. spoon of natural peanut butter maybe.

portion control will be determined by your daily calorie requirements. you can throw in some nuts, raisins, fruit etc to suit also.

            hope that helps

              170g cooked brown rice/pasta
              125g extra lean meat mince/chicken
suagages are vegetairan made of apple low fat cheese leek one egg andtable spoon djorn mustard
curry never out jar all from fresh ingrediants
yogurt used instead of cream tin tomatos onions garlic herbs spices chicken
spag bol or chilli is made with 500g extra lean beef tin toms peppers mushrooms onions garlic bay leaves herbs
then divided in to 4 meals for the  week
soups are also home made and contain veg and everything low fat never add creams or butter
I do insanity 6 days a week and full sessions this is my second time round doing as i managed 5 weeks then was ill so have restarted again. I will purchase some protein shake but i cant eat peanut butter as nuts make me quite ill which is shame because  i do like them. hope this gives a better view on what i eat. my partner does say to me i eat to many carbs ido struggle eating meat.

If you have an iPhone, there's a great app called 'My Fitness Pal'. It's amazing for recording your daily food intake. It even allows you to scan barcodes of food items, and it comes up with all the nutritional information for that product. You then select how much/many of that food item you have eaten, and by the end of the day, you will have a total amount of calories, protein, carbs, fats, everything.

give it ago - check to see what you really are eating, then you can start to make some adjustments

                June 2009: 208lbs - 15% BF
                Current Goal: 210lbs - 10% BF
Long Term Goal: 224lbs - 10% BF Max

If you're not losing weight, you're not eating at an energy deficit.

try slimming world and their syn points.  my missus is on it and has already lost a stone in a month, you wouldn't believe the actual amount of food she can eat, within the diet and still lose about 5lbs a week.

myfitnesspal has a website too, you dont need an iphone :) i guess the point is to monitor your cals daily and as liddy said to make sure you are at a energy deficit - carbs wont help this. your diet is a lot better now, i would give it a couple weeks at least, cutting carbs after 6/7pm works incredibly well for me (this is a debatable mater though). just make sure now your eating more frequently you are not eating too many more cals, so smaller portions, watch the calorie numbers and what they are made up of.

if you struggle with meat thats fine, just find a substitute (food preferably rather than loads of shakes) instead of making up your cals from carbs. Tofu, quorn, beans, veg etc etc seems you can cook so make some nice protein rich veg dishes. as long as you can get your head around the principles of weight loss, if you stall, you just need to tweak/change diet and routine.

in terms of what protein... you dont need to spend loads but buy a good protein, maybe one of the bulk suppliers on here are cheap, something with low carb/fat, if you need help picking a brand just ask. have a shake directly after your workout too.

also depending on how long you have been doing inanity, maybe your body needs a change - you could try 40-60 brisk walk (SSCV - medium/low pace) mixed in with the high intensity training. also consider some weights or excercises to aid some toning of muscles which help indirectly (push up, sit up, squats, chair dips, pulls etc etc etc), just cardio will eventualy provide diminihsing returns, although keeping protein high will limit the possibility of this anyway, but just an option. lots of good home weightless excercises around you dont need to pay for - routines section might be a good starting point too.

good luck, just stay focused on your end goal, stick to the basics and you will do it!

I started insanity a little while ago i only got to week four due to bebeing ill i didnt actually lose any weight but did lose inches. I have no restarted and on my second week, i normally do my workout  in the morning after breakfast then going to have shake after as a snack, would that be ok. ive cut carbs right down and so far not been hungry and have a shake before bed as i normally get hungry about 9pm. I do walk alot of places and in this weather i  walk fast as its to cold to dither about i havea 3 year old so he gets wrapped up worm and put in buggy. I have already lost alot of weight and seem to have gotton stuck at this weight.but as i said before im diabetic and its diet controlled ifi dont get  control and lose more weight i will have to inject insulin and with a major fear of needles i am going to lose weight.

The thread title says weight watchers!

I'm just going to say it, if you follow the points system that they give you, you lose weight. Me, my brother, my mother, (I'm sounding like that guy who sings vindaloo) my cousin and loads of other people I know have all used it and all of them lost loads of weight.

The only way you wouldn't lose weight is if you are not in a sufficient calorie deficit. Weight watchers doesn't recommend you to go as low as 1000 cals a day. Regardless of perceptions they try to put you on a number of calories that will make sure the weight doesn't go straight back on when you finish.
