10k training

just signed up to 10k for cancer. currently doing 3 miles 3x/week. any more than 3 miles and i get a slight groin strain and my legs feel heavy. what are the best leg weight exercises to build them up on my days off from jogging? any thoughts on the groin?

    A groin strain? Are you warming up enough and stretching when warmed up?

    Does the strain go away once you stop running?
