12-13 hour working day diet

Hi,

Hope you can help. I have been training for around 5 years now and have made 'ok' gains, gradual but a bit up and down at the same time!

Anyway, food is a huge part of my life, Im very health conscious. I have tried my best to use this site to alter what i eat and it is very helpful, however my working patterns make my goal very tough.

I am currently 6ft 3, 14 stone, not sure on body fat, fairly lean, bit here and there but in my eyes still look a bit lanky. Long arms mean i feel i always look small. They are just under 15 inches which i suppose is ok but not when you have long arms!
The main problem is i work monday to friday 8am til 8pm, I have an hour for lunch. I am only contracted to eight hour days but i work in recruitment and its commision based, plus i actually love my job and like being there! This does make eating quite tough, I would like to be around 15 and a half stone lean which feels like its impossible to get too. I can eat during work but only snack, the problem with all teh diet plans on here for me is the meals in the day time like chicken and rice etc, I would not be able to eat proper meals, only at lunch and at lunch i train and only get ten min to eat what i have so cant prepare. Tbh as i get home so late, by the time ive eaten its like 9pm and i dont want to prepare lunch for the same day. I know your probably thinking well work out what is important to you, but my job is very important to me, I would just like to try to get the body i want too! I can snack during the day like i say so nuts and fruit are fine (which is actually given to us for free) hence why i eat them in bucket loads!

I would also like to lean bulk, im not a fan of putting on fat, again making it harder, how high maintenance am i! haha anyway here is my current diet plan, I know I am under eating..

7am  - Weatabix x 3 with semi skimmed milk, honey and flax seed
  - Mass gaining protein Shake
 - 3 Boiled eggs
 - 3 cod liver oil tablets

9am - Banana or other fruit

10am - Protein bar, either home made from here or ordered off a site

11am - handful of nuts

12pm - oatcakes
 - piece of fruit
 - Creatine

12.45 - Train

1.45 - Whey Shake
Chicken and salad sandwich on brown
 - Anabolic Pills

4pm - Fruit, handful of nuts

6pm - Protein Shake or sometimes i will have tinned sardines however it does not go down well in the office!

8-8.30pm
variation normally either chicken and spinach, salmon and brown rice with veg.or stir fri or tinned fish pasta with pesto and brown pasta

9pm - green tea, low fat yoghart
10pm - Mass gainer
11pm - zma

Now i know i am under eating if i want to lean bulk here. But i really cant eat big meals during the day. is it impossible for me to reach my goal or are there any more snacks or anything else which could help me?

Really appreciate the help, thanks

Sounds like we share a similar basic frame. I also work around 70 hours per week (though self-employed and working from home, so no commuting time).

I can't see why you couldn't make progress under your circumstances. You're eating regularly enough and the diet isn't exactly atrocious. If you're not gaining then you could just look to increase portion sizes until you are.

There really can't be many jobs where you absolutely could not eat what you needed to eat. You may have to sacrifice taste and eat dry cold chicken breasts, but so be it. The reality of the situation is: if your working life is not going to change then you either a) find a way to fit in the diet and training you need around it all or b) accept that you can't do both. You don't come across like a quitter so so I'm guessing it'll be option a).

    Are you currently making gains?

    Have protein shakes then!

You can have an awful lot of nutrition in liquid form - just make sure you pick Meal Replacement style shakes or ones with carbs in - rather than just whey on its own.
And as long as you train hard you can make progress easy peasy.

The meal plans with solid food are desirable but you know necessity and what is doable are the drivers of what you eat. What I do not accept is that it is impossible - as long as their is a pee break you can get a shake down your neck!

Yea i'm getting shakes down me now, using the reflex mass gainer morning and night and a home made protein bar in the morning/lunch gap. Gains are slow tbh, they are gains but sometimes i feel like i am yo-yoingm if I have a bad week and loose a pound it destroys the confidence! but i'l try and make sure I stick to it, least i know now its nearly there, few cold chicken breats like u say and hopefully the gains will come. I wish I was 3 inches smaller! haha

I can lose a pound with a good session on the porcelain. Don't sweat that, it's the long term trend you need to focus on.
