19yr old missing for 12 days is found - your thoughts?

Anyone else think this guy should get a bill from the Australian authorities?

I mean to go wondering out alone, no mobile phone or preparation, telling no one????!!

Maybe its me just being an arse?

Also drunk kids falling off cliffs in Newquay - Parents now calling for a clamp down in underage drinking in the town??  The same parents who let their irresponsible children go there on their own?  FFS

At 16 you should know not to wonder next to a cliff whilst p1ssed.

Maybe I have too much time on my hands to think?

Maybe you've never misjudged a situation and taken a risk that you oughtn't to.

I've hiked in the blue mountains area.

People forget the just how fcuking vast the Australian hinterland is, it's not like going on a stroll through the lake district.

To be fair, even if he had a phone, getting a signal would have been hard work.

It's vital to know your route and have adequate navigation skills for the terrian you find yourself crossing.

Which, unfortunatley, the lad deceided to negate.

Lots of people die on the cliffs, would have thought you'd know that being in Cornwall mate

A good friend of mine died the same way when we were kids. Not very clever, but people in their mid teens aren't that clever as a general rule

It's the fashion these days for the bereaved to "speak out" via the press. It's not something I really approve of but I guess I can understand it

Truth be known this is a nothing story (except for his family). Check just how many people go missing in the UK every year. 1000's. And as for those who get lost or go where they are ill prepared for... ask the rescue services in this country how many they rescue without coats in the rain and snow on our various small mountains etc. 100's. ir not 1000's.

Bit of an Idiot really, the first thing you get taught in the outback is to not leave the group or the path !!!!
If you suddenly get lost then wouldn't it make sense to stop walking off and stay put, preferably find a large open space and making a feckin huge SOS sign out of rocks / sticks / branches ..... he should watch Bear Grills, he could have lived like a king eating kangaroo **** and emu steaks !

Grills would have built himself a nice little 2 story house with a pool in 12 days ffs.

He seriously should count himself a lucky lucky boy, in the fact it was raining and cooler this time of year or he probably would be dead.

Editted your post.  Yes you are being an arse.

This guy has had a near death experience and you are out of order calling him a 'tw.t'.  You know nothing of the circumstances and should not judge.

I watched this on the news and thought to myself 'at last a news story with a happy outcome'

Everyone has pushed the limits when young ,its all part of the package, everyone makes mistakes if you havent done the aforementioned then im sure your life has been dull

Play on building sites, jump off tall things into the water, ride a moped off road no helmet ,etc, right of passage to have some fun and feel invincable,i do feel sorry for anyone who loose's anyone to misadventure

But its just as bad to raise a nation of kids who ,cant run cos they are fat, cant go outside or mix cos of peados, cant climb trees due to H&S,life should have limits and risk, its our job to push them and test them

Kids now will have to play an virtul game of going outside

Everyone has been in shape, but not everyone is IN shape, its about where your going not where you have been.

Please stop talking up Bear Grylls. He's just a pretender to Ray Mears' throne.

Awesome pic, but Tony you're not doing yourself many favours posting up tips on preventing the gag reflex and then a picture of a guy touching his toes - Ak

Not too many paths in the outback, or the Blue Mountains for that matter.  The outback kills a lot of people with far more knowedge than Grills on a regular basis, he did well to survive and had a bit of luck I imagine.

Of course if you knew anything about the Blue Mountains, the cold is the greatest danger.

Do we give bills to tourists or immigrants who use our public services?

Some reporting of this is just lol.  The Times has him as a 'Survival Nut' on the grounds of having his DoE award.

Do we give bills to tourists or immigrants who use our public services?

Yes you do.  I was meant to be charged for some shots, but they couldn't figure out how much it was, how they invoice for it or who to give the money too once I give it to them.  They gave up and trying to work it out and didn't take my money.

I know it sounds bad but i would have liked to see his mother be a little more humble - she just kept on saying ' i knew he was alive ' , i would have liked to have heard 'we are very very lucky and thankyou to every single person who helped'

12 days !!?? i dont think a single person thought he could last that long (9 miles from the town he was staying at)

i just think it wouldnt have gone down too well with people that have had loved ones go missing

fair play to the dude tho, must have been pretty scarey
