2 sessions are never the same

This is just a quick one, my approach to training means that although I have favorite exercises (squats, dips, chins, deadlifts, military press, DB incline press, incline cable flyes) that pretty much always go into their allotted session, the rest of my sessions I pretty much make up on the day.

I know what I lift and what my aims are for all my lifts, the weights I want to lift etc, but after doing my centrepiece exercises, I rep out on whatever I feel like. So, for example, if I do a push day on a 3 day split I know I'll do military press, incline DB press and incline cable flyes. After that I'll do two or three other things depending on how I feel, sometimes classic BB press, hammer press, side lat raises, DB shoulder presses - really whatever I fancy.

Does anyone else train like this, or are people usually very strict with their whole programme?

I don't do much assistance/supplementary lifts in my sessions. However I would agree from my perspective as a PL. Once I am done with my specific lift training and then going to do some upper back work then that's all I'll have in mind. How I'll do that will be decided on the day often. I may decide to do a phase of a particular assistance lift.

TBH many sessions I will only have a rough idea of the loading/volume on my main lifts. It will vary.

I think if I was doing a BB type bodypart split I'd be more consistant with lifts lower down in the order.

Yeah, I think the BBers are probably very strict, but then that's their aims.

I dont really follow a routine as such either, i have an idea what group im training or if im doing full body etc, but then i just tend to have mainly big lifts in then maybe a compound or 2 but wont have a set plan really

I think you need a set routine in order to monitor progress.

I always include a compound lift/pull, compound push and leg compound exercise in each session then just add in any isolation exercises I feel I need to do.
