Im no expert but I dont think you'll notice a difference untill they start selling 4k blu rays, or start showing normal tv/sky in 4k, at the moment its all 1080p I believe.

I do a lot of push ups and sit ups. And I drink plenty of milk.

As boss says, what media are you going to watch that produced in 4k? When you know the answer to that you'll know if it's worth it.

Right now all you can do with it is plug in a camera and see your high resolution pictures in great detail, or if you have a really good computer use it as a big screen for games and what not. To use it for movies you'll have to wait a good while before they come out with such high resolution, and by then 4K TVs will be much cheaper.

Yes, don't bother.  By the time it's actually worth buying one, much better 4K tvs will be available for much less money.

currently have a top notch samsung 50 inch, probably the nicest tv I have had. even better than the panasonics I have had.

fancied some sort of upgrade, may just wait and see for now. always upgrade around this time of year. Miss my projector, but no longer really have the room for one.

Was looking at some of these new fancy TVs the other ay and whilst they look sweet I wondered how much further into the resolution can we go before our standard human eyes can't tell the difference.

Go a bit bigger?  Or upgrade the sound?

I've got a 65" Viera in a false wall, - mostly Miller & Kriesel sound (k4's & sw150's), processed by Auydessy XT32 (Denon 4311), and a sealed 18" sub (Fi Q18 powered by a 3,000w iNuke amp)- couldnt be happier with the entire package to the point that I, finally, have no niggly feelings of upgraditus, here's a glimpse!

There is the odd 4k demo on satellite , some of the world cup was on there too, but there are no domestic receiver's that will play 4k yet , the other problem is that when you see a 4k demo which will be true 4k content , it is usually slow moving aquarium style material , which will look amazing , put anything fast panning or action on there and you get quite sever banding across the picture , the current HDMI sockets in the current 4k TV's only support 24/30hz so they will always look ****  , you need 50-60hz minimum , so I would say they early 4k buyers will always be disappointed , then there's the added problems of doubling the bandwidth to goto 50hz , meaning its harder to broadcast or fit on a disc

HEVC will solve a lot of problems , but HDMI needs to support v 2.0 rather than 1.4  before it will be 60hz , this is well hidden in the product descriptions , personally I would wait a while .

Was going to say the same. For most people at regular viewing distance we're pretty much at the point where we'll see no real world gain.

You definitely see a big difference with 4k , a 4k tv next to 1080 makes it look like 1080 is sd , the problem is the screen sizes needed and viewing distances , my house for example would need an 80 inch + and that's a fairly small average living room to get the full 4k experience , although a smaller screen 60-70 inch would still give the eye a more detailed resolution significantly above 1080 but below 4k , it will come either way though.
