A Pay as you go sim card from Orange?

I recently swapped my contract phone for a Pay as U GO sim card from Orange, simply because I was out of my contract and had changed jobs - my old phone was also used as a work phone so I cancelled and opted for a "SIM Only" package.

I've got a new sim card, new number etc -

I topped up my new sim at the start of July with £30.00 - I was told this was how much i needed to top up to get "unlimited texts" (dolphin?) or £10 for 300 texts. Anyway, £30 seems fine, i get unlimited texts and so many minutes, im not sure exactly how many.

I got a text at 11pm saying I have 0.88p remaining on my account and to text back with the last 4 digits of my card etc. .

I cannot contact customer services, when I ring Orange they tell me to call back in the morning.

Its the first time I have been on "pay as you go" but I assumed that if I topped up £30, and got the benefit of unlimited texts, and 300/600 minutes whatever it is? then my balance would be £30?

or do I top up for £30 ( same as paying a contract ) then that £30 turns to £0 and I get the same?

I assumed that the £30 would go towards calls, and be used as credit? - I cant ring the helpline as its shut, is it just easier to stay on contract?? - seemed like a good deal if it is what i thought it was? pls help a fellow MT

You get the full value of the credit that you put in, plus any benefits that the offers give you.

Sounds like something is very wrong there - but don't fret till you have had a chance to talk to Customer Services in the morning.

Give them a chance to explain what is wrong first - after all the test of any customer service department is how they deal with it when things go wrong

Awesome pic, but Tony you're not doing yourself many favours posting up tips on preventing the gag reflex and then a picture of a guy touching his toes - Ak

They are a bit funny with when they let you start using the texts, they usually send you a text saying "you now have your ### free texts to use any time" or words to that effect.

i got it about 2 /3 months ago maybe. Originally topped it up with £30, they gave me 300 texts - I rang up and asked for the "dolphin plan" as that was the only reason i was sold on the sim card - basically free texts and 300/600 minutes for £30 a month

They rang me back and said as a goodwill for the problems i have had they gave me unlimited text for 30 days..

(not sure how it was goodwill as i had paid for them already, anyway..)

Got a text when my texts were up and a number to ring to stay on the "dolphin" plan

Did that at the start of this month, she even gave me another 300 free texts on top of my unlimited, which seemed a bit pointless to me.

Anyway i got a text today saying to top up, but surely i have my texts until the end of the month, even if i cant ring anyone?

When I was on contract customer service was available 24/7. - These chapys said ring back in the morning lol,

Sounds like a monumental FAIL at Orange.

Not a lot you can do until morning then!

IB see the date went well ,talk about on a roll lately :)
Look at Tmobile solo, its half way between contract and PAYG.
a 30 day rolling contract ,so no commiment and unlimited text and 300mins for £15 i think it was,you just get sim no new phone tho but weighing that up against the rest and with the option to stop at any time ,its a right winner

Everyone has been in shape, but not everyone is IN shape, its about where your going not where you have been.
