A question from a worried girlfriend

I am aware that many of you use ephedrine to help you with your training, and I am hoping you would share any knowledge you have with me.

The reason I am concerned is because I think that when my boyfriend is taking these tablets his general demeanour changes. For a number of weeks now, he has seemed generally unhappy, he isn't very chatty (he seems to be in his own head most of the time), he has lost interest in sex and we seem to argue alot.

What I would like to know is if any of you have experienced such side effects from taking these pills? Or if you know anyone who has?

Any comments would be appreciated.

As far as I know, some eph users have reported certain sides, one of them being depression. This does not necessarily mean he's getting it from it(I never had any probs), but IMO just to make sure,he should stop it and see how he's going

Eph is a central nervous sytstem stimulant so yes it can affect you mentally just like any stim. I don't use it for that very reason, it made me feel very "on edge".

Just a thought but are you sure he's only taking eph ? I only ask because I use eph and tbh I dont have any of the problems you mentioned. Obviously these changes could be completely unrelated to anything he's taking but the sides your describing dont sound like eph sides to me.

No biggie like, there are a lot worse things for you than using steroids, I mean I probably shouldn't have been smoking crack or getting into bar fights at your age TBH  - drab4

There is a possibility it could be something else. The only reason I think it is eph is because I saw the tablets last time and googled them and that is what it was (this was in Jan when he took them for a few weeks and we had the same problems). But I do know that what he has now, he bought in May so they may not be eph. Perhaps they are steroids - his biceps have grown loads in the last month.

I shouldn't think that I will find out, because last time I googled them I told him I had, and he went mad and said it was none of my business.

I stopped using ephedrine a long time ago because they made me edgey, irrational, explosive and reduced my sex drive to nothing.

Of all the supplements ever to come my way, eph has been by far the worst, for me.

That said, there are plenty of people I know who find they improve mood by making them a little "hyper".

From my own experiences, the negative effects of eph are greatly exacerbated by the type of diet I follow.

Many people who take them and don't get overly strict with their diet don't seem to have a problem with them. For me, on zero or next to zero carbs, eph was the match that lit the fire.

Sida Cordifolia is a herb derived from the ephedra family but has far far fewer side effects. Chemical Nutrition does a very effective, almost side effect-free product.

Lol, I use it when I have a hangover and have to get up for frontshift at 5am, it makes me feel just about sober and normal ahem ....that aside when I take it for training it makes me 'happy hyper' but I can get a comedown effect afterwards not disimilar to a mild E comedown.

If as you say his bicepts have grown alot there is a possibility (dare I say it) that he is taking AAS, and can have the side effects of depression etc. But untill you know what he is taking/for how long and strenghth of compound etc it's hard for us to give you concrete advice.

    Next day... if it's ephedrine : )

If however he is taking another medication (steroid) it will take until he's decided to finish his course, possibly up to 12 weeks. But then he's gonna have to go through some Post Cycle Therapy (more drugs help his natural testosterone start up again). Which means, worst case scenario (if he doesn't want to become a professional bodybuilder and stay on steroids) you're looking at perhaps 16-18 weeks before he's all natural hormonally again.

If it's a short beginners oral (tablet) course it could be over in 4-6 weeks plus PCT

My advice to you would be read up some stuff from this board, not only about ephedrine but steroids too, that will put your mind at rest to a certain degree, as you'll find out most problems encountered can be fixed easily. Then speak to him, basically say that it's alright if he has used anything other than ephedrine (even tho' you might not think it I know). That "may" be enough for him to feel you won't... er, how shall I put it... overreact, and to be able to come clean (if indeed there is something to come clean about of course) then you could both put your heads together and sort it out, and you'd be included.

I'm sure it'll be something and nothing, and I hope you guys figure it out

Just a thought here. Let's just assume he is using only Eph. If he's using this as part of a cutting diet (i.e. trying to lose fat) - perhaps he is being ratty and moody etc, because of the regime he is following. Some people (me included) can find the strictness of a diet turns them into a monster lol!

you're right of course... I've just got a nagging feeling about his biceps having "grown loads in the last month"

    IMO of course : )

Yeah a very fair point indeed. I'm using ephedrine now while I'm cutting and the combination of this and a reduced number of carbs leaves me quite un-chatty at times. Frtom what you describe, it could well be only eph he is using, and as stated before this will subside the day after the previous dose.
