ADVICE ON NEW LIFE!!!!

Bit of a strange one but i thought i would put it out to you all....

I am in the film industry and have been for 15 years now - i have spent the last 7 years working away from the UK and missing out on a lot of time with my wife and daughter who is suddenly 5 years old. We have now made the decision to base me back in the UK for good. We have very little savings and we want a new beginning! Our daughter is in a good school and we have a nice rented house here. My wife was with the BBC for 15 years as a make up designer........ We now want to spend more time together hopefully being able to make a living and have a life!!!!! It is now extremely to get work in the UK within the film industry and this takes us away for huge amounts of time as well!!!!

What do we do?????

I guess everybody is after making a living and having a life.....

Just thought i would put it out there..

Any thoughts let me know....

Cheers guys.....

    My advice

get down to the job centre, check the papers. At least get somehting to tide yourself over whilst you decide what you really want to do.

Is there anything you think you might enjoy doing?

sales rep for makup is good idea- or makeup for theatre school etc etc

depending on your film skills you could also be involved in local theatre filming etc etc

unless you fancy something completely different?

I was a location manager and production manager for ten years then starting producing about 6 years ago - abpove and below the line ( Film and magazine)

Not a bad idea re make up - schools - maybe fun days.....???? Teaching?????

All i really know is the film industry - i enjoy it but need something that gives me a little more time with the family -

will get to Job centre - and see if i can maybe get casual work for the next couple of weeks until i have formed a cunning plan????

also if you did want to buy a property 100% mortgages are a lot more common these days, so no savings isn't a propblem on that front

what about leading a course at a college/ becoming a university lecturer on the film industry, surely they have modules/courses on your area(s) of expertise

not a bad idea - but how to pitch such a thing????? What do i train them to do? Realistly unless you spend serious time on a film set it is very hard to learn the ropes - but still something to think about - there must be an angle to it somewhere and people are still interested in the industry here...... Hmmmmmmmm.
