AM Training

I've never trained in the morning before, but due to changes at work I am starting 7am training next week. Can't say I am exactly excited by the prospect as I am not a morning person. I have taken pre workout before and enjoyed the feeling whilst training, but came off them quickly due to not sleeping as I normally train at night. I have purchased some Amino NRG from The protein works, has anyone ever used this? Looks like essential BCAAS + some Beta Alanine, Green Tea and Caffeine basically.

This is more of a nutrition question, but do people normally have something quick in the morning pre training, even if it is a banana or cereal bar as I don't want to drop my strength due to energy levels etc.

Thanks

Carb friendly meal the night before, strong coffee with some coconut oil about 30-45 minutes before training with some BCAA's pre, intra & post. Give it a go and see how you feel after 2-3 weeks.

Enough caffeine tabs to provide you with around 200mg of caffeine? Not really sure what you can do with the coconut oil otherwise, straight off a spoon? Haha.

Exactly what I do.  200mg caffeine tab + a teaspoon of coconut oil straight off the spoon.  Energy is great. It's all about eating well the night before.

Thanks, how late would you eat carbs the night before? Possibly eat my normal meal around 6.30pm and then have some oats before I go to bed?

Post training I plan on having a White Bagel with peanut butter and chicken breast + Whey Shake.  Would that be sufficient?

Personally, I have a normal evening meal about 6pm (chicken and rice or whatever), then eggs on toast before bed, but it's only 1 slice of toast.  So I don't go carb mad or anything.

AM training will take some getting used to, to start with.

I find the biggest issue is fitting in some decent calories before I train as I am always starving when I wake up. Personally, I would cover protein and carb requirements first to ensure you're not training in a completely fasted state and then worry about the 'pick-me-ups' after that like caffeine etc.
I normally make up a protein shake and add some oats flour and maybe some maltodextrin.
Your post-workout sounds ok, but maybe add some high GI carbs for recovery of glycogen levels.

Well.. first morning went well . Energy good. Absolutely wired from the caffeine still! Strength was a tad lower than usual but hoping that will come with time. However massive error with the coconut oult.. 6.30 wake up, straight downstairs for oil of the spoon, spewed up 5 seconds after!! Might have to try it in green tea tomorrow I'm thinking??

Ha, bad news with the coconut oil.  Not sure I could stomach a full spoon full at once.  I tend to scrape little bits at a time until I think I've had a spoons worth.  Still all consumed with a minute, but not all the mouth at once.

It smelt so nice too, think it was more of the texture! Definitely a learning curve that one!

Buy MCT powder instead. All the bulk suppliers are selling it now.

That does the same job as your looking for in this thread.

Its a pretty much tasteless (very slight coconut flavour) powder

I can have  or 3 tablespoons of coconut oil without any problems at all, with MCT oil then i can have 1 tablespoon at a time otherwise i get belly problems.

MCT oil typically will have a high % of MCT's then straight up coconut oil... MCT's if taken in a large enough dosage can cause some extreme gastric issues.

I thought about melting some coconut oil in some heated almond milk, possibly some coco or smidge of dark chocolate in? Will look up MCTs cheers

I went through a stage of a spoonful of coconut oil and a spoonful of yogurt. Made it a bit more palatable!
