Alcohol and bodybuilding

Hey all just read a few articles on alcohol with bodybuilding.

i usually go out on the weekend and when im at the gym in my routine i stop alcohol, kind of hard of my social life tho so tonight i was just planning to drink dilute all night. sure itl save me money 70p a pint but it isnt as much fun kinda makes things boring cant dance or get the craic going without a few beers.

im bulking atm i dont count calories either i just eat like i want to but try to do it the healthiest i can, any good alternatives for drinking while bulking? vodka can be quite expensive and most mixers for it are sugary.

hope you can help thanks

vodka with some kind of slimline mixer or diet coke isn't too bad for you.
I hardly drink alcohol now to be honest, I'm sick of ruining my weekends with hangovers!

I drink once every 3 months. Other than that, I have goals that I need to stick to. Even then I feel guilty as hell the next day!

To be honest, I have recently been debating knocking it on the head entirely, it will probably be the best decision i ever make. Best drink would be a slimline tonic and gin, a vodka neat and that's about it. Beer is bad, end of story!

    pre-drink? :p

its not ideal but if you fail to make progress after a couple of years its not enough of a hinderance to say 'alcohol' ruined my training. there will be 100 other things wrong amounting to failure, not the occasional binge at the weekend. youre young, enjoy yourself

alcoholism is another matter altogeter ofc but social drinkin is fine

Current goals: get back in the game

Vodka and diet coke I usually stick to,with a few bottles of becks which is not the worst beer there is.

Vodka and tonic water would be better, but don't great tasting.

If you love something let it go,if it comes back to you it's yours,if it doesn't it never was.

As said go with a spirit such as vodka and mix with a diet drink, coke/lemonade etc.
Vodka mixer is no more expensive than a beer wherever i go, plus if you dont want to spend too much then get most of your drinking done before going out, dont really drink in the club and then hangover wont be so bad as youll be getting rid of the alcohol for longer rather than drinking into the early hours

Oh god I have images of you dancing away harassing girls now Colinzor.

I haven't drank in over 6months and it's been the best 6 months for progress I have ever had. I drank every weekend on a Saturday night and I think people can underestimate the difference it makes to you're diet/gains. I'm not saying you should stop drinking, each to their own.

Anyway if you need to drink to have a laugh as you stated then stick to mixers and diet coke/lemonade. Personally I can have a laugh without drink :)

I gave up drinking booze for lent. This is the third weekend I haven't drunk alcohol and finding it really easy. I used to go out most weekends and have a skinful. Its a massive eye opener though. The clubs/bars I usually go to whilst drunk look completely different when i'm sober, made me realise that they're full of drunk idiots.

Its only been 3 weeks but the difference it has made in the gym is unbelievable. This is the thought that is in the back of my head every time one of my mates moans about my non drinking. That and the fact i'm saving a ridiculous amount of money.

Healthy drink for me though would be vodka, lime and soda. Only a dash of lime though.

I didn't drink a drop for 12 weeks on my previous cycle. Sod that for a lark as it was boring as hell, whisky and diet coke for me, maybe with the odd magners as a starter, but that's OK as it comes with ice which has no calories.

Age 43, 6 ft 1 in,100 kg.....just getting back into it after my son was born a couple of weeks ago. Need to lose the BF that has built up.

If you drink every weekend you will not make any gains. I should know lol

Festar: You can't plead poverty with 2 cars. That's like a little Kenyan chap pleading poverty with 2 packets of uncle bens rice hidden under his bed.

I can't say this is 100% true for me, although since I have cut down from drinkingand smoking (which I now have quit) heavily both Friday and Saturday, and now just having a few glasses of wine or beers on weekends when I feel like it, my training has improved.
