All UKBFF Competitors

Just to make things that bit quicker (and less stressful for all!) on show day:

If you intending to compete with the UKBFF could you please apply for your membership beforehand (see: www.ukbff.co.uk) if at all possible. My wife has said she will get your membership cards to you within 2 - 3 days of your online application (or you can do it by post).

There is now more choice of memberships:

1 year = £30
2 years = £45
4 years = £60.

Many thanks,
Mike.

At least there is an option for 1 year which did not seem to the the case in the discussion last week!

Just guessing but probably in an attempt to get you to sign up for the 4 year option, securing their funding and membership numbers in this present economic time

    Mike
why the increase in Membership for the 1yr option?

    Paul - a few reasons:

Met-RX have pulled out of bodybuilding completely and have taken a massive chunk of sponsorship with them.
Costs for the UKBFF have increased and we still want to take people to the World's, Europeans, Arnold etc and would like to keep the amateur Olympia in the UK.
We don't want judges and officials to be out of pocket and as petrol has increased so much lately so have expenses. Judges don't get paid - the least they can get is their expenses paid.

    Hope this helps.

sounds pretty logical to me mike.  tough times for all of us i guess, never good when things cost more, and competing is already expensive, but understandable.

Don't you think more people would compete with the UKBFF if they were allowed to compete elsewhere?

kitty IMO i think more people would take the 4 year option if they were allowed to compete elsewhere, but i know thats out of the UKBFF's decision making powers.

Mike - seeing as we have a rep on- could you please confirm or deny the rumour round these parts that if you are a UKBFF member you are not even allowed to ATTEND other federation shows (as a spectator) thats whats going round up here and if its not true, better to put it straight!

Nice to have clarification, not that I agree 100% with it. Of coarse it is alot cheaper for the 4 year option but you are so tied in with this fed it just closes 90% of your options where and when to compete, a bit more flexability would be nice!!

To be honest i don't really see the price rise as a massive issue.  It was £20 last year to join for a year so now if you want the yearly option it £10 more ok so that is a 50% increase.

But at the end of the day what is a £10 increase, when you think to compete you pay for all the tan, trunks, supplements, travel to and from events then if you choose to AAS, someone to prep you, possible hotel costs.  The £10 pales into nearer a 1% increase cost.

was £15 last year westy but i agree its not enough to really put people off in the same way that £60 could

i think even the loyalty thing aside, nobody can predict if they will be able to compete for 4 years in a row,  you dont know if you'll stay healthy, financially, emotionally able, its hard enough to even compete at all in a given year with life throwing things at you, let along for a full 4 years...but i suppose there are plenty people out there who do compete year in year out regardless of their personal lives....

    Hi Liz,

Glad to see someone that realises that it's not the UKBFF that makes the rules. At the end of the day we are part of the IFBB and we are under scrutiny to make sure the rules are being adhered to.

As far as attending other shows etc - that is TOTAL NONSENSE! Totally untrue - hope I have put that straight.

    Mike.

Oh that would be a really silly one to do (no spectating elsewhere) and how on earth could that be policed.  So glad that ones not true!!

I do appreciate that the competing in no other fed rule comes from the main body but if the UK guys thought there could be more of a chance of more income because more members would join due to less restriction, surely it could be worth a fight on behalf of the members???

I once competes in a fed that tried to stop their athletes from 1) being sponsored by companies that also sponsored non-natties, 2) attending other shows that were not tested 3) using supplements from companies that did not supply 100% natural products LOL!!!!!! Needless to say I don't compete with them now.
