Anybody on here a doorman??

I'm in my 12th year now....due to quit in April...had breaks of up to 9 months before....what my question is....can anybody advise on how to deal with the young managers who think they are King of the castle and speak to doorstaff like ****, and keep saying things like "let go of him" wtf?? and after I've walked someone out "BACK INSIDE" in a stroppy manner - no need for that **** at all....I keep telling myself "think of the money" but whether I will last till April is another matter entirely....

Just nod your head then do what you want anyway. Are you on a contract? if you are, a manager can't just sack you, as long as your doing your job properly and professionally.

I can't imagine doing 12 years in that job. It must really get to you.

Fck me how have you survived I did 3 stints in ****ty places and in the end got fed up and had no patience. I was the stereo typical grumpy **** doorman but the end. Just nod your head and think of the money its all you can do. Managers seem to move about a lot so maybe he will **** off.

Thankfully I only ever had one manager who was a cock and someone shot him as a result of his behaviour lol.

No contract. Most doorman don't work for the venue itself, the venues use an agency so he can easily get rid. I know of hundreds of doorman who have been let go for speaking up or ridiculous reasons. And its IMPOSSIBLE to the door job 100% proffessionally all the time. Especially if some crcakhead is going to bottle my face.

Thing is, as previous experience has told me, if I don't come down hard on managers who speak to me like **** initially, they will keep doing it.

Dont know why i put 3 stints I meant three years lol.

Well you just have to remember if they don't like you they will just fire you so is it worth the risk. Like I said I never had many bad ones but I know some people do.

work at a better place or tell the guy to stop being an ass, you don't get involved in the running of the bar or pulling of pints, tell him to behave.
have a good working relationship with the managers where i work.

I've never worked the doors but the same principle applies to any line of work - if you accept someone else's unacceptable behaviour a couple of times (for whatever reason), it'll keep happening day after day. The only way you'll stop it happening is by confronting your manager about it (whether you do this politely or impolitely is your choice).

If he doesn't stop interfering after this, then it's obviously up to you whether you agree to work at his place again.

Please explain? Has the job affected your mental health?

Dealing with the general public is problematic in todays society, add drugs and alcohol to the mix and it really can be a pain in the hole.
I'm 9 years i think.

Made me depressed, anxious, angry....the main issue is the lack of back up from cluless managers, police. The kicks offs I can handle.

Same, the fights are not even close to the worst part.

Never got depressed, but hated working a few places.

I know it's easier said than done, but never let it get to the point where your work is making you ill.

I read some of Geoff Thompson's books a few years back, gave me some good insight into how the job can mentally affect you and some of the disasters and fallouts that can happen, and that was from back in the day when you could slap idiots who deserved it and it was expected.

Good point....last week was better but there were no kick off's.....people keep saying "keep your head down think of the money" well that's all well and good in theory but in real life it doesn't work like that
