Anyone been to Hawaii?

We're thinking of going to Hawaii this year for our honeymoon.  We're not sure which part?

We want relaxing, nice scenery and a bit of nightlife, good food.

Any experiences?

Why has Hawaii taken your fancy in particular, James? There are hundreds of places that offer what you describe without the expensive and torturous flight.

I went there for work a few years ago. The one night we were able to get out we went down town to one of the big cities and enjoyed the scenery, amazing water, and beach food and night life. This probably isn't going to be much help but I would take the Mrs. if I had the chance. I do agree with sillynarbie and wonder why you would choose somewhere in Europe. I’ve been to Santorini Greece and that is one place I will take my wife. I would even consider doing a vowel renewal there.

We want to do something different.  We're doing 4-5 days in Las Vegas first then onto Hawaii.  I have fancied it for years as it's not full of Brits and the scenery looks lovely.  Fancy an island.

I've been to Vegas twice before but both times on bodybuilding (ie work).  I really liked it and want to take the Mrs there when I don't have to have meetings and watch men in pants!

We thought about California afterwards, but fancied Hawaii more.

Not full of brits but obnoxious yanks!!  Also very expensive as everything has to be imported.

Personally I would go to LA (santa monica) or San Fran.

We rather fancied Hawaii for our honeymoon this year also. But we didn't book it though, one of the things which put us off was how even some of the nicest 5 star hotels are B+B only.

I do think we will travel there in years to come though. Please put up a wee thread or review of where you guys go on your honeymoon!

Spent 2 hours on the Tarmac refueling an aircraft when I was in the RAF, turned around and went back to the states.

Should be good if you like Japanese food. I've not been, but I know it's popular with Japanese, so much like you can get a good full English on the Costa del Sol, you can probably get a good plate of sushi in Hawaii.

I went to Hawaii for honeymoon. It was Oahu island and we stayed up north in the turtle bay resort. It was a long hard flight but let me tell you when we got there there is only one word to describe the place...paradise. It's amazingly beautiful. The food is brilliant and the people friendly. We hired a mustang as its dirt cheap there and drove down to Waikiki for 2 nights about 20 min drive for a night out drinking and it was the best 2 nights partying I've ever had. We still talk about it to this day. Turtle bay is expensive but worth every penny. They love English people as they don't see us much and are very curious. We made some cool friends out there and always want to go back. Not so easy when you have kids!
I would say if you can afford it go for it. IM glad I can say I done it in my lifetime. All the best.

I've been looking at Hawaii as an option as well, I think Kauai is meant to be the island which is more secluded and romantic but it depends what you want out of your honeymoon.

One thing putting me off Hawaii though is that a lot of the resorts are fairly big.
