Anyone ever feel like giving up?

Training has been going great until just recently, my team's shifts are changing and they're starting to bring some really nasty shifts in and it's making my life even more difficult to get to training cause it was tough enough as it was. Plus the missus is starting to complain that 'whenever I'm not working I'm training' and she never gets to see me, I'm also sore all the time and feel a little run down. For example I went out at the weekend with my woman and all my friends and yeah I got drunk and it was just like any other normal night I had been out on since before I started training but I had the time of my life I really did I think it's just cause I don't have much fun anymore.

Don't get me wrong MMA is something I love doing. I love the training, the competition, the dedication, I love everything about it. Just seems I don't really have time for anything else, an option would be toning it down to one or two sessions a week but how could I seriously become a contender only training once or twice a week? I picked up a small groin tear over the weekend so I'm going to sit this week out from training and get back to my normal life and I'll see where my head is at by end of the week.

Does anybody else feel like this sometimes, how do you get through these bad spells?

i used to do Wing Chun religously (and private lessons) for years and then with a new job and more responsibility (and hours!) it made it harder and harder to train... i didnt train for around 5 years after that and started back up with some thai and bjj but it wasnt the same and i found that i didnt have the dedication left in order to train hard so ive recently knocked that on the head as well....... now i'm more of an arm chair fan of MMA although if there was a dedicated class local to me i might well give it a go...

i think sometimes your life just over takes these things... shame really...

you need to set yourself a goal, or some targets etc.

mma and boxing are the hardest sports for dedication, i think its hard to keep the regime and trianing up unless you have something to aim for, ie a specific competition or tournament, or even some new sparring partners....

trained last night had a slight injury to my neck and just frankly wasnt in the mood but im glad i made the effort to go because if nothing else gave me a chance to work on techniques. Im lucky that atm i pretty much have nothing to do so can train all the time but cheetah i know exactly what you mean i used to be like that with rugby and it takes over your life and puts strains on everything.

Take a week off chill set yourself some goals and just remember your doing it fior fun and if it aint fun any more then find something else

You are in the position that I fear! Maybe you should cut down a little in the week 'or' take her with you.

main reasons i quit... your either in 100% of not at all sadly

MMA is not a weekend warrior course you see with some martial arts that have their trainees practice 1-2 a week

You're definitely right, you're either all in or all out with MMA. Had a great night of rest last night really enjoyed it, will let you all know at the weekend what I end up doing. Thanks for the suggestions and stuff.

A long time ago i made the decision to stop serious bodybuilding, although i never competed i had everything calculated like food, training times, rest everything - as you say it takes over your life.

Same thing with my fight training, i have 3 nights ckm and then another 2-3 mma training - i have no desire to enter any mma comps so i am just happy to learn as much of it as i can because i like doing it - i also enjoy just wee things like in house comps and rolls, keeps me ticking over.

Was speaking to another guy last night who is a very talented mma fighter and i asked why he wasnt doing any of the recent comps and he said he wouldnt do one unless he dedicated at least 6 days a week to the training!! Thats alot of time and effort- in the end up he still trains mma 2-3 times a week but enjoys all the other joys of life like spending time with family and friends and of course getting pissed! lol :)
