Anyone have bad depression? I Need help.

Hi guys i know there has bin a couple of posts about this already but here goes anyway.
Last year August i hae a knee op and tore some ligaments in my knee through playing football. I was off work for 5 months due to it not healing properly. So that meant no gym time diet went to pot and basically became fat(put 3 stone on) and very lazy.

Then started going to work for 4 hours aday to get back into it(worked in a warehouse lifting heavy boxes all day) so not a good job for me at the time. So then went to working every other day as my knee took more time than i thought to get better but i went backwards and started doing too much too quickly.

After doing this for 3 weeks thought i cant carry on doing this any longer so had to quit this job. Thats when depression kicked in. I had no job could bearly walk properly still and not enjoying life.I then had 2 weeks off but already had another job lined up working for next. Thought yeah wearing a suit all smart every day thought this would smarten myself up and get into a routine. Worked for 4 weeks then i had real bed depression.

January I broke down at work to my manager couldn't drive home all shakey. So went home and from then on started getting real bad. I started drinking real bad just to get myself to sleep as i wasnt sleeping for 4 or 5 days at a time so thought i would see a psychiatrist.

Had another 4 months off work then i found MT and asked Steve TOXICTOFFEE for a diet and training plan as i thought im killing myself here all was going well until today. Its like it s all started over again.

The only thing i dont want to do is get into my old routine again and having the same thoughts i was having, mainly revolving around suicide and just drinking.
Could anyone help me with this at all as im in need of help.

Thanks Adam p.s. sorry for the long post

have you been to your GP mate ??

depression probably wont go away on its own without a little help (not that im an expert) some of the lucky people who are given medication manage to get thru it to make a complete recovery others can control the symptoms etc.

Its very very tough as other people just dont undersatnd and the stigma attached to mental health often stops us from talking about it until it gets real bad - then somthing has to be done.

    good luck buddy

as the boar says mate, seek professional help and get it now. It is no shame to ask professionals for support. It may be a chemical and physiological casue due to some imbalance, it may be an emotional issue. Either way first call the doctor and above all BE HONEST about what you feel.

You might want to talk to a group like the Samaritans who can give some real guidance on how to heal such things as Suicidal thoughts.

Do not delay. Take action now and you will start to feel in control again.

Yeah i went to my gp around december but it was the psychiatrist who gave me medication but they said it was kinda strange for someone my age as inly 20 but was 19 at the time. I lost alot of friends as they thought i was going weird and didn't understand my situation until 1 of my mates found me passed out in my bed as i had an overdose but thats the worst i have got so far.

I find it harder as i dont have a training partner so getting to the gym can be very hard.

I did have some help from focus line and now i thought i was ok as i have bin ok now for about a month but was still taking the medication. But i find it real weird that it came on all of a sudden thats all.

Unfortunately mate, I'm not qualified to give you any other advice. I'd also guess that because of the sheer variety of people who suffer with depression it's hard to give any advice other than what they went through. If you have history then even more reason to speak to a professional my friend. And speak to one quickly.

id go to GP mate as others have said, in the mean time maybe sit down with pen and paper and think what you would like to do and write down steps needed to go in that direction.

i get it, its a fooker.

When i look at things, no wonder really though. Kinda all happened when i had a messy break up from my mrs of 6 years. Few other sh!t things happened, but things lookin up now. Its that my happiness is dependent on things like income, accomdation and girlfs, but nevermind!

i was put on medication, cant remember - cytralopran or something, cant say it did anything.

Chin up mate. You just have to keep going, as soon as you decide you cant be bothered, then its 10 times more difficult to come through it at the other end. e.g. the feelin of not wanting to get out of bed, or do anything. thats what i get anyway! maybe just lazy

speaking as someone who has suffered with severe depression on and off i hate to tell you that it's not an easy condition to deal with. bouts of depression can come out of nowhere when your feeling good and different treatments work for different people. i'm lucky in the sense that i can usually bring myself out of the depression without any help. however, i would advise anyone who is feeling suicidal or ever has to speak to a professional. i did when i was that bad and although it didn't help in the way it was supposed to it did help getting everything out there, there really is some truth in the saying a problem shared is a problem halved.
As for your gp and psychiatrist if they don't say alot about the way your feeling make sure your honest with them and tell them how you want your sessions to go, everyones different some people want a psychiatrist to sit and just listen where as others want the psychiatrist to take control, so tell them what you want. the sessions are there to help you make sure you make the most of them or else there not going to help and they could even make things worse. Also remember there are other support systems out there, such as internat groups, and the samaritans when you need immediate help.
Another simple and effective way to deal with depression is to start a diary or journal, not neccesarily a daily one but one that shows how you feel when your really down. not only will this be a good way of getting things out of your system but you can look back at it and begin to understand your condition. if you feel able to share the diary it will also help your psychiatrist to assess your condition and possible treatment.
i hope that helps if you need any more help email me and i'll do my best to help.
p.s sorry for the long rabbling message.

Are you still on the medication? If not, tell your doc you want back on it. If you are on medication but it's not working ask about upping the dose or else changing to a different one. Your psychiatrist saying it's weird to have depression when you're 19/20 is absolute rubbish. It can happen at any age! Your shrink should know that so don't be made to feel you're weird for being depressed.

Perhaps you started work too soon? You need some time off but make sure you try to fill your day with things you enjoy doing. Try and get some routine or being off work could end up being bad for you. When you start to feel better again you could try for a part-time job maybe so that you don't go back in at the deep end. Don't try and rush things.

Depression is a weird ****er. You can think you're fine and then BOOM it hits you from nowhere and your world falls apart. Basic things are to try and eat healthy, keep up with exercising and try and get out of the house so you're not isolated all the time. But you really do need medication if you're feeling that bad. Also, have you considered counselling?

The main thing is that you realise you need help so hopefully you can get things sorted before you go back to being as bad as you were before.

Something someone said to me once when I was feeling desperately low: "i know you're feeling really bad just now, but just remember, it won't always be like this". Hang in there!

it's shocking the number of GPs out there that still don't know enough about mental illness. if you still feel depressed to the point that it's affecting your life then go to a different doctor who will hopefully be a bit more understanding.

if the meds are making you worse ask the doc to try other types of antidepressants, some work better than others for certain people. if your doc is a bit dismissive maybe if its possible change doctors, ive changed doctors a few times due to moving and its amazing how different they can be.
Theres also plenty of self help stuff on the web.

    good luck with it.

Hey, the side effects of anti-depressants should disappear within 1-2 weeks of taking them. They shouldn't be there constantly. The meds I take have been the worst ever for side-effects but I only got them at the beginning or when i've increased the dosage. Have you spoken to your psychiatrist about the side effects?

In young people antidepressant medication should not really be used as a first line treatment without a combined psycological therapy. If you're still feeling low ask your doctor about CBT or interpersonal therapy.

Yeah, I suffer from depression a bit

I would get to your GP and ask what the best course of action would be - do you trust your GP? If not, I would look to change to somebody you believe you can trust because your life will effectively be in their hands.

There's nothing wrong with medication, and it's there for a reason...I liken Depression to Cancer, it just doesn't go away through positive thought and keeping your chin up.

Medication, Counselling and BIG changes to my life all helped all alot
