Anyone here deal with Anxiety/SAD?

Ok so i supposedly have social anxiety disorder and sometimes get really badly nervous around big groups or one-on-one conversations.. i sweat, sometimes tremble and get really bad nausea (this is the worst because i cant eat and sometimes vomit)... For some reason it doesnt happen to me all the time, just every now and then.. just wondering if anyone else has suffered from anxiety and how they dealt with it.. i used to take paxil cr for it but that stuff made me not be able to get it up, so that was no good.. i also used to take ativan but it made me drowsy and decreased my energy a lot. any help is appreciated. thanks.

did one event start this thing off years ago ?

i used to get this wierd thing where i would go bright red for no reason, it got real bad - when i met someone or was going to meet someone as soon as i thought 'am i gonna go bright red' i went crimson, real red like a cherry...lasted for a couple of years, it really affected my social life and even my job.

i get pretty much the same thing buddy. anxiety that is, not SAD.

try to find what causes you stress and try to reduce or if possible eliminate it.

this suggestion will no doubt get slated by everyone but i can personally recommend glutamine. remembering that under stress glutamine levels in the body drop massively. supplementing with it has been known to have positive effects against stress. it certainly helped / helps me.

wish you all the best though, i know how nasty it is, not being able to eat when your trying to bulk is never good!

if you're going through hell. keep going.

I know what you mean about the going crimson bit, It's weird I can handle really embarassing stuff fine sometimes, then something mundane but about myself, just general chatting to people I know or don't know and I sometimes feel myself going red It's like WTF.

It doesn't help that my skin is quite fair, so anger, working out, running etc get me red easily!

Extreme anxiety and depression ruled me for a long time, dealt with by some talking but mostly medication which I'm now off of,drugs are very clever and very powerful without so many side FX nowadays and you will respond if prescribed correctly.

You could keep on trying meds then if this is a serious problem for you. Prozac (fluoxetine) would be a decent choice for your next try. It's quite rare that people find the ideal med for mental disorders on their first attempt. Try and try again. If you want to go down the drug path that is.

What I would recommend more highly than drugs though, is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.

I would google it for a lot more info.

    Google : Social Anxiety CBT

Yours is a fairly common disorder and can be treated quite well with CBT.

Yep I suffered severely from this, but it was due to another mental illness, not just something that came about on it's own. When I recovered from my main mental illness, my secondary ones such as social anxiety and depression aslo resolved.

    Good luck.

BTW I know very little about SAD but it can be treated quite easily with sun lamps I think.

You would get it prescribed by your GP.

It's certainly a better choice than valium (diazepam) which is a rather ridiculous thing to prescribe in all honesty.

It has several side effects but they vary greatly from person to person. Again I would suggest Google is a good tool to read up about it. Personally I experienced dry mouth, dry eyes, some flushing of the face, and some tunnel vision. But it was worth it for me as I was in a bad state at the time.

CBT works better than drugs though to be honest. Drugs are "easier" though.

Your doctor is a c0ck or has little time or both, take care with the Diazepam, don't take it for the 2 weeks just because you have enough, please don't tell me Doctor bellend gave you enough for 4 weeks

Prozacs ok,don't read to much into the horror storys and its certainly a better choice time 1000 than diazepam.

Nothing really triggered mine tbh mate. Well a few things contributed, and I'm sure I made it worse by over-using drugs. Mine was one that just develops over time though. It wasn't a sudden breakdown.

ahh sorry didnt mean triggered, bad use of the ole england their, should have said what contributed towards it, but youve ansewered anyways. Did you recieve therapy or just a steady course of drugs? If that question doesnt aplpy to your situation just ignore it.
