Anyone here ever lived in Japan?

I'm looking into working in Japan for some time next year teaching. Have any of you guys/gals ever spent an extended period of time over there?

Obviously i'd like to continue my weight training when i get over there but don't know how available good gyms are/prices/food etc etc. It's not a definite thing yet as i'm just looking into it but you gotta plan for the important things right

Did you ask this the other week mate? Just there was an identical thread a few weeks back?

Anyway I've never been to Japan but a good mate of mine is over there now. He's doing what you plan on doing, he teaches. He teaches kids English. The money is really good, even though he doesn't speak Japanese very well.

He's been there about a year now I guess. He really likes it. I think he mostly likes the attention from the Japanse women lol. From what he says, he seems to be having one of the best times of his life over there. I don't think he's planning on coming back!

I had to check then just incase i had asked this already but no i'm not going crazy yet.
I've heard people do have a brilliant time doing it and thats partly why i want to do something like it as life has been pretty tedious these last few years and i'm not sure what i want to do job wise so this looks like a good option.

I'll take a look for this old post cheers drab

This was discussed a few weeks/months ago. Turns out one or two of us on the board had thought about doing this and applied. I was offered an interview in London, but didn't go, but I think Furious D went and is enjoying it. A friend of mine also did it for a year or two and loved it. He now works in the Japanese Embassy.

i spent some time over there and my wife is japanese. Just as you will learn many new cultural things, you will also feel cut off from the things you know. If you are attached to your current surroundings - the typical 'British' things in life - then you might find it hard. If you can sever with that, then you'll have great fun.

    Cheers guys,

I got in touch with Furious D the other day by e-mail and he's given me some pointers where to look etc. Says he's having a great time.

heats1nk - Like i said in my email the other day i've just moved down to the kingston area, so don't really have much of a life at the moment. I'm looking to get out now really and this sounds awesome! The only thing i won't want to leave behind is the gym (family not inc) but furious assured me there are some decent gyms around so thats ok.

I'm probably gonna work till jan then go then with some extra cash in my pocket to help fund my food bill!
