Yes, one of the best things I've ever done!

I still have a drink once or twice a year but that's it.

Weekends are much better, never get the dreaded Monday feeling!

not intentionally , just found myself not having had a drink in over a year , the last drink i had was a weekend away and that was the first drink in 6 months , not liking hangovers , 2-3 ruined days at a time , anxiety , drop in training performance , my life has  just evolved in to not drinking , when i have the urge I will have a drink or if i go on holiday , but for now I really dont miss it at all.

I used to have a drink on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday and the odd one or two during the week.

Over the past 2-3 years Ive gradually drank less and will now one have 1 or at the most 2 on a Saturday. I got fed up with the hangovers and its now more important to me to be fresh and ready to go to a morning gym session. Waking up on Saturdays and Sundays hangover free is brilliant. I've lost so many days feeling awful

Not teetotal by any means but I go months without touching it the will have one night and sicken myself. The last few times I have drank though I cant get into it at all and have remained pretty sober, just tastes a bit minging TBH, maybe not a bad thing.

The older I get the less I enjoy getting drunk and all the associated issues, hangovers especially. However, I suspect I will always love a really good whiskey or red wine. Purely for the taste.

For me the question isn't giving up the booze. It's about appreciating alcohol without getting smashed.
Getting wrecked on high quality booze is such a waste because after a few you really can't appreciate it. The issue isn't alcohol. The issue is binge drinking in my opinion.

I packed it in, but like others it was more a gradual thing due to not liking hang overs.
drank less and less until I realised I'd stopped. I will have a very small glass of wine with a meal, but it only happens a couple of times a year.

This is me right now!  Once my single days were over I have never been a huge drinker.  Yes I have some weekends where I'd have a few each night and I'd feel pretty rubbish on a Monday.  But lately, when I do have a few too many I have become an awful drunk.  I never used to be.  So much so that in October I had a horrible night....... drank too much too soon with not much to eat but it's no excuse and I was horrible, mainly to the GF.  I actually stopped drinking full stop.

Right now, I'm allowing myself the odd nice beer and whiskey again.  No more than 2 bottles.  I've been driving on the odd night out we've had and that is my biggest battle.  I am hoping I can try a night out at some point and just have a handful of drinks spread over the night.

One thing I'm sure about is, I can never get drunk again like I was in October.  I'd rather not drink at all than get like that.  But I don't have an issue with a couple of beers or glass of wine at home.

Since stopping drinking for a while I did enjoy a few alcohol free beers and if I do myself to drink again when I go out, I plan to alternate with these to stop me getting drunk.

Same here. I'll drink to enjoy the taste and relax. I will rarely binge, but do seem to need to relearn my lesson every couple of years!

I haven't had one of those "never again" hangovers for a while.

Sean you'll feel better tomorrow and fine the day after. Chalk it off to experience, we've all done it.

    Similar to most above posters.

Will have a few sessions over the year. Probably drank about 6 times last year of which 4 of them were all on all inclusive holiday.
But quite often go a few months with out a drink. Last time I touched alcohol was mid December.

It does help that I do not like the taste of drinks like wine & spirits.

I drink but can't remember the last time I was drunk or hungover, I'll have a pint or two with dinner and maybe a glass of whisky after and leave it at that, I drink it because I enjoy it not to get drunk. Never understood what it is with people and drinking until they fall over.

I have a few pints after work on Fridays and maybe a couple on Saturdays. Will try to cut down to every 2 or 3 weeks.

My question to those who have stopped or hardly drink........ what do you do in social situations where it's a full blown night out for everyone else?

My GF informed of a night out coming up where we are going to the dogs at 6pm then to a nearby casino until 1am.  It's for a family members birthday.  I can cope if I'm driving and sneak off at 11pm before it gets messy but to stay out until 1am sober just horrifies me.  And because I'm with the GF and family I can't just disappear.

I am actually thinking about drinking for this just to tolerate it.  And just be very very careful what I drink.  As I mentioned in my earlier post, I've become an awful drunk and can't risk anything more than getting merry.

    Appreciate your answers, thanks.

Id cut down to just a few shorts on a Saturday recently, at home. Id even packed in the few I have on Fridays.

The Misses was going out Sat and co-incidentally, an old pal texed to see if id go out for "a few", but being honest, I really couldn't be assed with it, just felt obliged. We go out, have "a few", then he suggests we go in town for "a few" more. To cut a long story short, we were drinking some industrial strength beers and mixing shorts in, drank a lot.

Never sleep much past 8am but wakes up on Sunday at 4.30pm feeling like crap with the misses going on about why shes been unable to contact me all day :(. I don't seem to get a normal hangover these days, cant describe it, pure anxiety and worry, bloody horrible.

So bad, not gone work today.

Like Brittas above, wondering what you guys do if your going out on a night out?

Ive supposed be going out on a birthday night out in 2 weeks, and I really cant be assed with it, even going out having a few.

Hardly ever drink nowadays, especially when it's 15 to 20 quid a pint in the UAE.

Not really, I'll go a few months without any then do an Olly Reed, really depends on the occasion and mood.

I struggle to be honest. As long as people don't badger me into drinking (which I never succumb to) and are happy with a lift home, but I'm usually in bed by 10 so struggle to stay chatty past that time.

Lots of espresso is usually the response...

I alternate between alcoholic drinks and water when on a night out. Usually I'll have two or three bottles of mineral water for every alcoholic drink.

Some people think it's wierd, but it's no big deal.

Nice to hear so many in the same boat.  Like I say, I think I've got over the fact that I cannot drink full stop.  What is true is, I cannot get drunk and risk being the idiot I have been a couple of times last year.  I appreciate a nice ale or 2 or a whiskey in the house or wine with a meal.

What I cannot do is go out and drink one after another after another.  But my dilemma is, I can't go out to the longer "all night" events and stay sober.  If I was alone, I sneak off.  I'm sure I will find a balance.  I'm sure I will slip up again in the future and drink too much (although I really hope not).
