Are we getting bigger & better ?

Not sure if this is a trick of the mind , just circumstantial , or genuine improvement  -  but walking around the BGP a few weeks back I couldn't help but notice how many huge & awesome physiques there were knocking around.
Going back 10-15 years ago , it seems you'd only ever see a handful of such physiques wandering around the place !
Are we ( the trainers of the UK)  simply getting better ... or is it more down to communication  -  i.e. getting all the awesomeness under one roof at the same time ?

...Or is it just my interpretation  ?   I was in far better shape back in those days -  perhaps my "awesome-omet" is calibrated to  >myself   ...... Back then I was in much better shape  , whereas now pretty much everyone there fell into the >me category !!

I like to think things are getting better though !  Certainly the throughput of our gym is more mainstream than it was back then , I have always be sceptical about Gym culture becoming mainstream  , but that is largely because it would water down the hardcore element  -  if we could have "hardcore mainstream"  that would be great I suppose.
     What do you think ?

No, Not that Dr Z.  Please don't bother PM'ing me for 'Price Lists'  You have the wrong guy.

    this for me....

take the big fish out of the small ponds around the country and put them all together in one big tank.

normally you'd only see these big buggers in isolated cases, 1-3 in each gym maybe or once in a blue moon around town.

    Bit of both.
What IB says and also information is at fingertips, as before the net it wouldn't be so easy.
Supplimentation has also taken huge steps forward.

More people training, better access to information thanks to the internet.

    Probably quite a few reasons.

    Agree with Drab.

Far more gear available today than 15 years back. Far more junk too but more people on gear and more typres of drug available.

    HGH is far cheaper too.

i think its a combination of things many already listed, one thing that hasn't been mentioned so far is that before this recession we had a good long run where lots of people had good amounts of cash, combined with more information via the internet and lots of PED's

I dont think PEDS are the reason they have used for years, but maybe the adjust of diet TBH not so many fat off season BB no more, more eye on nutrition when bulking etc I thinik is reason why

although PED's have been around for years the internet has given a lot more people the information to use them better and in some cases easier availability

I could be totally wrong here as I don't think I've been involved in the gym "scene" for long enough, but there are an aweful lot of young lads down our gym using gear. You can just tell with the gains they make over the time they train. I know gear has been around a bloody long time, but it does seem to be more mainstream now?

I won't however discount the internet and the amount of good information that is now freely available whereas years ago you'd have to get to know someone and get their help personally instead of having it all at your fingertips.

I think gear is definitely more accessible now - pretty much anyone can get their hands on it within a week at any sort of bb gym.

However this thread is more about the really really big guys about, the monsters amongst us. These kids that go on gear without a clue in their early days will only get so far before stalling or quitting.

I think for the monsters its all about improvements in diet and more info being available.

I think with the increased media slant on the male form more people than ever before are into how they look, also with the net a phenomena like muscle beach in the 50's/60's,the same thing now becomes an internet sensation ,so instead of an isolated area catching a fad a whole movement pick up on it.
Also supps have become more mainstream again due to the media mens health etc, then some train for ages with little gains ,so think well im on creatine i may take the next step up.

before it was a slim percentage of the gen pop then knew about diets, protein, someone one gear now everyone is at it and its mainstream,so before lets say 2 out of ten were on gear in a gym maybe its 4 or more out of ten and many more gym users,as well as the advent of fitness first etc gym that are approachable ,in the old sweat pit gym a lot of the noobs wudnt have lasted a week.

So more fish in the pond means more that are bigger but there also seem an increase in beer roiders, before a few hardcore lads seemed to hammer gear and life the life, now a lot seem to bang the juice in eat ok 2-3 days a week then drink it up ,eat sh1t at weekends lots of round lads

20 years ago I would often see groups of Monsters in Luton, South Wales, Bristol and other places.

Big drug fuelled BBs are nothing new but in this case Z, I reckon that it was the event where clearly there would be the highest % of such.

However, I think these days gear is much easier to get hold of and that must play a part.

I agree with some of the previous posts, that I don't think the number of bodybuilders at the British Grand Prix is a good barometer for the popularity of bodybuilding in the UK. Nonetheless, I do think that there are more people who are in good shape than in the past, but I'm not so sure about the numbers of really big guys.

    Gear.

My mates brother, 22 I think, has been training about 2 years and has been using test and HGH reguarly from the start (not sure of exact cycles but it's pretty heavy doses by the sounds of it).  Excellent gains and, so far no major sides.

If he had been training a decade ago, IMO he wouldn't have been using already.  People are more aware that steroids work for the average trainer better and quicker than any diet, training plan or legal supplement do. All IMO.

I'm here to attain not maintain
