Arginine?

I have read in Flex that one of its benefits is that it produces Growth Hormone.

I have a few questions i would appreciate any answers to if poss:

I am 22, have only been training properly for approx 9months, have very quick metabolism, am eating and training to gain mass, therefore would this be beneficial?

Does it have any side effects/damaging properties?

Has anyone used it in the past?

Many Thanks

You can now get Arginine Ethyl Ester, which is similar to normal Arginine, yet the effects should be more stronger/pronounced due to the added ester.

Arginine will help you to recover more quickly, have a positive effect on muscle growth, it is more freely absorped than normal Arginine.

You could have a look on the net for AEE, the sponsors may have it.

    Take it throughout the day.

Waste of money. There has been research on it for years, all inconclusive when you consider the study design. AEE is merely a marketing hype using the ethyl ester ethos on an aged supplement.

There is no evidence that supplemental doses of arginine will help you' recover' quicker and certainly no way that you could try it and see.

Could I ask your opinion on 'NO2' (pump) style products James and their effect / usefulness in terms of training and bodybuilding results. Seeing as arginine in some form or other is the primary ingredient in almost every 'NO2' product, just wondering if you have had a chance to research the effectiveness of these products and this use of arginine at all.

I should say that I have been using a arginine stack for the past two years on and off and I always feel like my endurance and recuperative abilities are enhanced whilst on and of course the effect on ehnacing the pump is undeniable when these products when used correctly. I don't know so much about the growth hormone increasing properties of arginine, however for these other properties I've mentioned I do believe arginine may have a place in a bodybuilding supplement stack, maybe not an essential, but it certainly has some benefit in my eyes.

Arginine alpha ketoglutarate is an entirly different compound. This undoubtably has the desired effect, ie improves blood flow and = better pumps. This helps workout intensity, so indirectly helps gains. Just because a monomer (simple unit of nutrition, eg amino acid) is part of a larger compound, does not mean it will initiate any related effect on its own

I studied arginine in great detail when compared to other 'growth factors' in the intensive care setting, in my old ITU days, the evidence for arginine helping post trauma was poor, whereas there was reasonable evidence for glutamine

Not got any scientific basis here, just anecdotal - I've been taking it for a few weeks since going on a big bulk and noticed that I stay pumped for a bit longer.

As for the growth hormone thing. I don't know. I'm getting bigger (in a good way) but that could be down to so many factors. Basically, it's an amino acid, so I gather it can't do any harm if you take a gram or two per day and it's pretty cheap so, why not really?
If you're on a very tight budget then maybe don't bother.

Arginine and lysine can be taken together to increase GH release. Arginine on its own will have very little effect.

Very old study JMA and much publicised in the 80s when the 'hot new supplement' was Arginine Pyroglutamate + Lysine which, as you'll have noticed, never really caught on
