Axle Barbell Questions

I want one...I think I can get stuff to make one, but need specs.

I believe the length is 7 foot. What is the dimension of the oly bar ends? How thick should the inner part of bar be? I have found some scrap 1.875" solid steel rods in 20 foot lengths for under $25 If this is thick enough for inner part I could sleeve the ends to accomodate the thickness of standard plates and weld a plate stop edge.

I've also been told I could use heavy gauge hollow 2" pipe..I could use some old rims and tires and/or plates to weight it..? Either way somethings gonna ge made...anyone have specs ?

One more thing..is it better that the ends not revolve? It would make any easier build

thanks

Mine is a scaffold tube with 2 plates welded on either end with holes drilled in to fix wheels to it. I used the length of an Oly bar as my dimensions and had the plates welded on where the oly bar goes from 2" down (ie. where the weights stop)

thanks - I'm likely to go the hollow tube route, but wanted to also use for axle deadlifts and was concerned about strength of this tubing versus solid steel. if I wanted to go to 500 + lbs

If it's scaff it'll hold lots more than you could ever deadlift on it Tommy - no offence meant to you either!

great! The hollow is much easier to find. I'm not sure what gauge scaffolding is however. What should the diameter of gripping surface be ?
