BB Shrugs

I'm finding my grip a problem when doing bb shrugs, with an overhand grip.

straps have been recommended, as has a mixed grip.

but with a mixed grip, would there be any uneveness?

lol weird question probably, but ah well

I use a mixed grip for shrugs mate...but you knew that! LOL

No probs for me at all, I'm not the biggest shrugger LOL, 150kg would be tops but without the mixed grip I'd never keep hold tbh

    Straps are gay LOL

Nah, I just reckon you'll never improve your grip if you rely on straps Gina

It depends on your routine, but I personally wouldn't be worried about using straps for shrugs. I do chins and BB rows before shrugs, so my grip is likely to give out fairly quickly when I finally get round to shrugs - using straps just makes sense there. I stopped using straps on deads recently and tripled 220kg raw last week; it certainly wasn't my grip that was the weak link.

Titch, do you reckon using a mixed grip for shrugs would cause an unevenness as per the original question?

I use a mixed grip for shrugs (one overhand, one underhand) with no probs

BB shrugs are fine as long as you dont hit your c*ck on the way up and down.

I doubt it but I can't really back that up from experience.

All I know is that I used double overhand grip for shrugs and deads until recently, and yet I've got uneven traps for some reason.

Shrugs are the only exercise that my grip goes before the main muscle being worked. For this reason I use straps. I find the mixed grip quite awkward when shrugging.

Don't agree with this, up until recently shrugs were the only exercise i used straps for, purely because i found it impossible to give my traps a good workout before my grip gave out, and seeing as you're doing shrugs for your traps you may as well work them properly. Your grip gets worked indirectly in quite a lot of other exercises as well anyway.

Personally I find mixed grip for heavy shrugs completely impractical, can't get a good pull at all. DOH, chalk and after that if you really must then use straps (as I assume you do this at the end of a back workout so your grip will be fatigued thus I make an exception for you )

i used to to, then i went on ephedrine no problem anymore, i know how girls do it now

i use a mixed grip, possibly some un evenness but if you were overly bothered swop them each week,
    eg
    i do pyraminds, so might do 80kg, 115kg, 140kg, 300kg
    left right left right

etc, so swop, start with right underhand on set 1

you shrug with 300 kilos? WTF

(as I assume you do this at the end of a back workout so your grip will be fatigued thus I make an exception for you )

yeah its always fairly near the end mate.

anyway, I'll give it another go with the double overhand, then if that doesn't work, mixed, swapping, which'll probably be sh1t because neb suggested it in the first place lol and if thats cack, I'll have to get some straps I guess.

    cheers for the help guys
