BUTT

I have started to work intensively on my thighs and butt and am noticing great results but there is one problem. My butt is getting smaller and I dont want it to. [?]Are there any excercises that i can do for it that will tone it up but keep the size as it is?
thanx

I think a more serious answer was requested.

I'm sure the girls will chip in here and give their personal experiences with specific exercises that work the glutes (bum).

i like lunges the best, stiff legged deadlifts, and good ole deep squats. i don't mind my butt area getting smaller, as long as i feel firm there, i'm happy.
i guess if you keep at it, keep going heavy, you'll build more muscle in time.

snwboardinchk69 I like your style. As for how to make your booty bigger, I agree with what's already been said above basically, especially squats and DB lunges.

If you ain't already tried 'em, 20 rep squats are excellent for improving your squatting strength. Although lower rep sets 'd probably be what your after if you're just going for size.

The thing that always makes my butt ache most isn't a typical weights exercise...no, wait..i'm not being rude..it's backflips!

A few standing backflips - all that thrusting and squeezing does the job nicely ;)

But apart from that.....deep squats and leg press should give you nice firm round glutes.

I dont do anything specifically for the butt. It gets plenty enough work with everything else. I know you can get those doggy butt machine things at some gyms but I dont think they're necessary

Why do so many of the posts in this forum turn into excuses for the guys to comment on women's bodys or make inuendos? kind of puts you off posting! We don't go into pictures of the guys and comment in this way - and there definitely is material there some times!!!

Sorry - rant over. I like squats and lunges too, also like going heavy on the seated leg press as really feel it on top of legs, bottom of bum. Have you ever tried squats with a swiss ball and free weights against a wall? Gives a bit of variety (especially if gym busy) and you can vary the space between the legs to target the areas you want, go low as possible for maximum butt work!!

If that refers to my comment...I apologise....Just a bit of light hearted fun on a rather dull and miserable day..!

BTW...if you search through all the forums..specially general you will find plenty of comments and inuendo's by women on men's bodies..probably more..!!!!!!

for what it is worth, I find dumbbell squats, rather than barbell best for the glutes.

Try some explosive squat or lunge work, even step ups.

We did an emg on step ups and activation of the glutes and found that steps ups produced unsubstantial glute recruitment. An explosive step up and the glutes really fired hard.

    Try olympic lifting also.

Oh Gawd! I've just recently started squatting and already have noticed a difference with my thighs. The only problem is, I've just managed to get my bum smaller - the last thing I'm wanting is to make it bigger again! Can I still squat, maybe using lighter weights to help my leg muscles without making my butt bigger again?

Sorry about this - we do try to control it where we see it - however you will get this on ALL forums not just MT where we pride ourself on it's inoffensive atmosphere. Also note Pete's comment's that female members also comment on male's physiques!
