Being stronger than untrained people

Does it ever concern anyone else here how much stronger we are than them?   Normally its reassuring, but there's a flipside.

When you think about it we lift about 3-5 x what the average untrained person lifts, powerlifters even more.  Our bones are much stronger given that we lift.  When I was out of shape, I still had a lot of muscle underneath, a lot of people had no idea it was there.  I've never punched a man in the face, full force, but God knows it's likelier for my punch to kill him than an untrained person.  That is a scary thought for me.

Normally, most people know to not start any crap with us, given our size.

Normally, we are very confident in our strength, so it gives us a cooler head, and if we do have to get physical, we can control the pace and flow of events more.  Normally.

But let's think the unthinkable - what if some scrote picks the wrong day to fck with you?

Imagine - you've had the crappiest day in years, Murphy's Law is in full swing, ie in the same afternoon you've just lost your job, a few grand has been siphoned out of your account, your girlfriend starts acting up at something you did months ago, you storm out of the house fuming angry, go round the corner, steam still coming out of your ears, and some weedy idiot decides to not say "Sorry mate" after blindly shoulder barging you, instead streams off some verbal and slaps you.

AT THAT EXACT MOMENT.

I have a very good temperament, but I shudder to think what I could do to a man if pushed to the edge.

I can't fight for sh!t so while I am flat out windmilling like a nutter I'm sure they'll have no problem keeping their cool and sparking me with one punch

Not been in a fight since I was a child so not nothing that keeps me awake at night TBH

Being strong in the gym means fu.ck all when it comes to fighting. Your punches may even be weaker if you're a big and slow.

Benching twice as much as someone does not mean you are twice as strong as them when it comes to one to one contact of any type. Be in punching, grappling, pushing, kicking or most importantly.. Arm wrestling.

Yep being strong has nothing to do with fighting ability , also a trained 8/9 stone weed could hit far harder than someone carrying a bit if muscle . Punching hard involves legs , hips , shoulder movement etc

Example. I'm training a friend atm. I lift double what he does on almost every lift. When we have had grappling play fights in the past it's pretty equal. We are both athletic and have a background in judo to a similar level. He's dynamically strong, fast with good coordination. He's just new to weights so doesn't lift much. Remember weight training is a skill. You become more efficient at moving a bar. The carry over to non lifting movements is not linear.

Btw you sound like an 18 year who just received his creatine order. Aren't you in your late 40s?

I wouldnt hit some one his head might come straight off.
Im worried what time of day i do push ups. If i do them at the wrong time i could push us closer to the sun. Now i do them at mid day and the same again at midnight to push us back into place.
I think global warming is a direct effect of me missing a rep.

Whilst I understand the OP's pondering question and the potential outcome of a scenario if we "strong people" had to, for whatever reason, use our 'superior' strength to fight, I have never been in the situation to even think about the consequences.

I am of course a superhero like the rest of you guys but I'm also a very placid and a somewhat pacifist. Even when I've been blind drunk in my youthful years (aeons ago) I have never even considered wanting to fight. I have broken a few up in my time and talked a bit of sense into complete strangers occasionally but unless it's for sport, I consider any sort of aggressive confrontation using fisticuffs to be the work of rather inept and insuecure individuals.

Having said that, if a member of my family or a close friend was set upon and there was no other way around it, I would use my strength - not my fists - to try to calm the situation. I reckon if I was accosted myself and in a potentially life or death situation, I would knuckle the attacker in the solar plexus or kick him in the bollox. That will bring even the biggest man down.

But brute strength is no match for 'talent' like boxing or karate and you've got to remember that the little weedy guy is more likely to have greater agility and speed than us lumbering meatheads.
