Bench Press Safety study

Hi all,

I am design engineer working on adding safety features to gym equipment, specifically the bench press.

I was hoping that you and any of your colleagues could provide input on safety features that have been added to the bench press. Essentially we have hosted an online survey that contains 20 questions on bench press safety aspects (will take less than 10 mins to complete). The survey can be found at:

http://www.zoomerang.com/recipient/survey-intro.zgi?p=WEB226K8JBDULW

I would be very grateful if you could complete this survey and forward the link to your colleagues or members that are experts in using the bench press. The feedback that is received will feed directly into a design project aimed at developing improved safety features on the device.

Thanks for your input

Seems like you want us to help you design something... but it was done years ago.

    1) use a power rack when benching
    2) use one of these:

This one has the rack at the back (so can be used safely) and you hitch forward to do it competition style:

Here's a picture of me using one of the ER Equipment safety benches at the IPF World Bench Press championships last weekend, it's an excellent bench that doubles as an excellent squat rack.
